Speed Sensor

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 fiesta which has developed a fault which has gradually got worse.

It started off where the speedo would drop to 0 for 30 seconds or so whilst driving. This got gradually worse and is now at the point where the speedo isn't currently working at all but every few days or so it will start working again for a few miles.

When the speedo isn't working the mileometer displays ----- and I'm getting a p0500 error on the odb reader.

I've looked on all the forums but there doesn't seem to be any pictures or diagrams which show where the sensor is located. Some say they are located on the wheels as part of the abs sensors but my car doesn't have abs. Others say it's to the right of the engine.

Can anyone help me out and failing that give me any indication how much I'd be looking at paying to get it fixed if I can't find it myself.

Thanka

Bump

I recently had a speedo sensor replaced on my 04 Focus. Not sure if we are talking about same thing but what happened to mine is that I was driving home and all my dash lights flashed up, straight away I lost my speedometer, petrol gauge, tachometer and mileage. Lights flashed on immediately and everything came back. Then they went off again, then came back, then went off completely. In my garage I got it 'fixed', my local garage charged me 165 Euro for the diagnostic machine, speedo sensor and fitting.

It was fine for 2 days and then went again. Came back again the next day but took it back to the garage. Unfortunately I don't think mine was ever the speedo sensor in first place as I had read loads of issues around an instrument dash cluster which were giving same issues as mine. I got them to look at that and since it's been fine. Not much use to you speedo sensor location wise but might help on a rough price.

if you dont have abs then the speed sensor is located at the rear of gearbox near where the o/s driveshaft goes in gearbox

Should I be able to see/reach it from the top or do I need to go underneath? I found what might be the cable but it's impossible to get to.

Where does the other end of the cable go to?

Thanks
