Gearbox Problems

Featured Replies

Hi guys. I have a ford fiesta 1.25 zetec 2007 model (face lifted model), and it has recently developed a problem with the manual gearbox. It starts fine, with the gears nice and easy to select - very precise and slick. As the journey progresses, the gear changes become more stiff. It's like changing up and down the gears in stiff treacle. My commute is about 20 miles and the problems start to become apparent after about 10 miles. Any ideas what could be causing this and would I be able to fix it. The gears have not suck yet......... It just very stiff to move up and down the gears.

Thanks

Lee

I will put money on it being related to a bush inside the shift mechanism. On the front of the gearbox there is a plastic box/cover. Under there is a large piece of metal which has a plastic bush on it where it pivots. I have done a couple of them now, cleaned up the pivot, a light file/ream of the plastic bush and reassemble with a little grease. Has done the trick both times now and no further problems.

Hi Steff. Thanks for your reply. When you describe in front of the gearbox, is this under the front of the car or is it in the car with the gear knob and gaiter removed looking into the shift mechanism?

Thanks

Lee

It's on the front of the car on passenger side. As you look under bumper you will see it.
