Couple Of Issues - Audio & Steering Controls (Fiesta Mk7)

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a couple of issues, which I have searched around and found (similar but not the same) question / issues. I would REALLY appreciate anyones help / guideance with these as they (whilst not major), are seriously annoying me :D

Issue 1 - No Audio through USB

Audio will not play through USB alone. USB does have capability to transfer audio (digitally rather than analogue) and I have been able to do this in my old car for quite some time now. I have also been able to do it in many of my friends cars.

Is the Fiesta MK7 built-in unit able to produce USB Audio? I would have thought if it can charge the device it should be able to output Audio, which many cheaper and older radios are capable of.

Issue 2 - Steering Wheel Controls

Next issue is my Steering wheel controls. They hardly ever work, I literally have to PUNCH my steering wheel over the top of the controls for them to start to work.

If they do work I have to push REALLY hard for it to register I'm using one of them (e.g. Skip Song, Volume up etc).

When they do work, half the time they perform incorrect functions. E.g. Volume up actually skips track, volume down goes volume up etc.

PLEASE HELP ME!

Alex.

Steering wheel audio controls are a common issue - spray some electrical contact cleaner ( NOT normal WD40 ) under the press switch - even better gently lever the switch cover off & do the same & with the access remove the crud that often gathers there - someone asked this a little while ago & my advice worked for them so hopefully will for you too

Thankyou so so much for your response!

When you say "under the swtich". Do I need to take the steering wheel off?

or Will the Buttons simply pull off with some pressure?

Sorry, I'm not as astute at cars as others around here so I do apologise if this seems "novice" like.

Thanks again, really appreciated!

No - no steering wheel removal - just gently lever the switch cover ( the part you press ) up enough to spray some contact cleaner in - or if you lever enough it'll pop off & you can clean the grime out - i think it's this grime that prevents proper contact & resuts in the switch playing up

Awesome, I'll give it a go thankyou.

Don't know if this helps at all, but I've noticed this morning that if I press the Mode button, it wakes the switch up and works perfectly for one function. Then stops again and I have to re-press "m" for it to be fully functional again?

Haha!

Thanks

Probably just coincidence

My vol- is still erratic but i'm convinced it's not the steering wheel button. It might work for 2 days then not work for maybe 5 days. Course, if I take it to a dealer during the 5 days it's guaranteed to work ok. Thing is, I can go for a drive and it prolly won't work, if that's the case it won't work during the whole drive. When I restart to go back home it might well work ok, if so it'll work ok for the whole drive. Seems like some form of canbus prob to me. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Well I've experienced this one before so may be able to lend a hand..

Whether the audio works or not does depend on what device you're using..

As silly as it seems USB sticks may or may not work (if they don't you need to change the formatting of such - not sure what to mind you as mine have all worked fine)
Iphones work like a dream through USB but the bluetooth compatibility of Apple phones is somewhat lacking.

I used to have an Iphone and it annoyed the hell out of me being able to get 20 mins down the road before the Iphone connected to BT.

Android phones (in my experience) generally don't work via USB but bluetooth is solid as anything and always seems as if it's already connected before I get in to the car

When you press Aux on the stereo you'll cycle between Line-In, USB and Bluetooth so just make sure you've got the right one selected haha. Failing all that, use your owners manual and remove the fuse for the stero/usb and replace after 30 seconds, should work fine!

Hope that helps :)

wilks3y, thank you thank you. You mentioned a mode button, not knowing what that was I thought i'd press  the voice control button. Hey presto the vol down works and works for the full drive until engine off. Next engine start vol- may or may not work but now I know how to fix it. I just knew it wasn't the actual button.

wilks3y have this virtual pint :drunk:
