Blue Smoke After Oil Change

Featured Replies

Hi

Question,

why would my 1.4 TDCI have blue smoke from the exhaust after an oil and filter change?

Ive checked dipstick ( im questioning the dipstick as it has a twist/kink in it) and level is just below the max line, and i used the correct 5w30 oil.

Engine runs just fine after the change but i have no blue smoke before it.

Any help?

thanks

Joe

Blue smoke from the exhaust is a sign that somewhere you're burning oil - keep an eye on the level and see how much it consumes

Edit: Idea - I know you say the level is just below the max but perhaps you put a little too much in and it's being chucked out through the crankcase breather into the turbo and cylinders?

Hi Chemfusion,

Yes this may be possible and I will be keeping a very close eye on the level.

If it is being blown through the turbo etc how can I clean it out..... That's if it's possible to?

Follow up.....

it seams to now just emits a biggish  puff of blue smoke on start up from cold........

Possibly oil seeping past the piston rings / worn piston rings

  • 2 weeks later...

Was it blowing any blue smoke before you did the oil change? What is the oil level like on the dipstick? You might have overfilled it slightly - if you pull off the take hose that connects onto the turbo and see how oily it is as that is where the crankcase breather chucks the oil vapour.
