New To Ford - Fiesta Zetec 1.4 '04 Common Faults?

Featured Replies

I'm totally new to Ford cars (having stuck with my toyota since I passed my test 12yrs ago - it just kept going & going but sadly it was written off last week) and have just purchased a 3dr '04 (MK6?) Fiesta Zetec 1.4.

It's only got 60k on the clock and I got it for a good deal, considering it is pretty immaculate/full ford service history & one former owner.

But that aside... what common faults should I be looking out for? I've got cash aside as I expect something to go wrong so looking to preempt things a little and not end up with a big shock.

If it is well maintained, then there should be no problems. I bought my Ford Fiesta Flame '54 with 110K+ miles on the clock and it is mechanically sound. But, you can take a look at this http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/common-ford-fiesta-problems/1201510

Cambelt is due 2014 or every 90k miles. Easy enough to do yourself with the correct tools.

Washer jets leak rain water due to lack of rubber seals. replace with mist type washers with rubber seal. Can cause spark plugs go sieze in place. Not fun

Front springs break due to corrosion. If they break, replace in pairs.

Pollen filters bung up if they're not changed and leak & cause bad smells.

Window seals wear away and allow water Into the door.

(3dr) handle to fold seats forward becomes useless when cable breaks. Requires a new cable

Probably more that I've noticed by now but can't think at the minute

I had a 04 fiesta flame with 98k on the clock,it was a cracking car and drive was spot on.

The big problem i had was the Cat (exhaust) being doing this mileage as the red light kept

coming on,changed 3 sensors but came down to the cat but the thing is a NONE genuine Cat might

still bring the light on as i had 2 new ones being a lot cheaper as ford was mad prices but light was on still.

I sold the car in the end but it was a great car in every way.

Nothing to do with the mileage. My first fiesta has 122k & this one has 93k. No issues.

It's to do with a problem it nut have had in the past and it wasn't repaired soon enough. For example, a misfire causing unburnt fuel to enter the cat :)
