Squeaky engine when idle 04 MK6 1.4

Featured Replies

I just picked up my fiesta today and have noticed while I'm sat in it (waiting to pick someone up in a carpark) that the engine is very squeaky.

It keeps letting out a long squeak then stopping and starting again. It gets higher when I rev but then it stops for a while until it just sits there again.

Reminds me of the fan belt noise in winter that used to come from my Dads old car in the early 90's.

Any ideas what it could be/is it common? I was thinking either the cambelt (which looks in good nick tbh) or the water pump maybe [emoji53]

How do you know the cambelt looks in good Nick? I changed my own not long ago & it's hidden behind a casing.

What you can see is your aux belts. One belt powers your power steering. the other belt powers the alternator, water pump & AC.

The aux belts will most likely be squeaking. As the aux belts are stretch belts, they have to be cut off and replaced when you change the cambelt. If they're squeeling, then the chances are the belts haven't been changed, and nor has your timing belt or any other associated components (tensioner, Camshaft pulley bolts etc)

The waterpump on the mk6 is also supposed to be changed with the cambelt.

The belts are supposed to be changed every 10 years or 90k miles. With your car being 2004 your belts need changing asap.

Turned out it was the oil filter whining which baffled both me and my mechanic, changed and problem solved. Cambelt has already been changed.
