When accelerating hard the car revs high but doesn't gain speed?

Featured Replies

Ford fiesta 1.4 zetec 2004.

Hi, so yeah this problem started a few days ago for me, when accelerating hard my car revs very high(to the redline) but doesn't gain speed? This happens at any speed,in any gear, and no conditions need to be met to make it happen(like going uphill ect). It's like a put my foot down and there is no power the car will just rev for ages before finally gaining a small amount of speed.

Sounds like a clutch problem.  Clutch worn and slipping.

Clutch slip yo 👍

Took it to the garage and it's the clutch, time to scrap the car I guess, thanks for the replies guys.

Is the car not of the condition where a new clutch would suffice?

Unfortunately not, the clutch is just the major problem at the moment, after that I still have too much that needs to be done with the car to get it up to a safe standard so I need to cut my losses and get rid I think.

Always a pity when you come to the end of the active life of a car.

Any ideas on the car you want next?

My fiesta is a 2004.. and it's probably in better condition than most 2010 cars round here.

What's wrong with yours?

Too many things to count, it's cool though I'm picking up a 2003 focus st so it all worked out in the end.
