Mk6 Power Steering Issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've had my Fiesta Zetec Blue 9 days now (see previous post, it's very nice!) Anyway, over the past few days I've noticed that when sitting at idle in neutral, and also when manoeuvring at very low speeds in first gear, there is a noise which I can only guess is the power steering (as it occurs at the slightest touch of the wheel) - a sort of whining noise? Also a small amount of vibration on the steering wheel at motorway speed (but I don't know - that might just be normal). Anyway, I didn't think anything of it at first because the car had just been MOT'd and had a full service by the dealer the weekend before I picked it up. I decided to look under the bonnet today and there is virtually no power steering fluid, (well below minimum anyway) do you think that would explain the noise? I'm slightly concerned that there is some kind of leak, but surely this would have been noticed during a service!? Either that, or the 'full service' thing was a white lie. Also, would a message pop-up if the power steering fluid was that low - or just if there is a particular fault? I'm going to top-up the fluid before driving again to see if that rectifies the issue, but I'll be contacting the dealer regardless.

Thanks for any advice!

Just to follow this up for if anyone ever experiences something similar - after topping up the power steering fluid I have had no issues at all! So I guess this just wasn't checked during the 'service'; no signs of a leak.

Cheers!
