Important question (steering noise)

Featured Replies

So I am a new owner of a 2013 1L Ecoboost Fiesta, and when I am turning a sharp slow turn to go on my drive I hear a noise, can't really describe it but it's like a buzzing? is it normal or is there something wrong?

Does it only do it while the steering wheel is being turned?

If so, probably just the power steering motor.

Yes, only when I am turning sharply to reverse on my drive, steering is smooth, no knocks etc just worried me a little bit reading about people having noises that are driveshaft/cv joints and all the other expensive sounding stuff.

I had a problem similar to this after cleaning my alloys with a brush, I had dislodged something on the break shoes and every time I turned in a sharp circle I had this noise, I had it checked and the break shoes adjusted and then the noise went.

A certain level of buzzing or whining is expected when doing tight low speed turns.

It's the PAS pump servo working harder as the fluid pressure is at maximum.

Totally normal unless it starts clunking or screaming.

Clive, its a motor, not fluid assistance on fiesta

2013 Fiesta will have EPAS, no pump/servo.

But you could still hear the motor at work.

I have another question and I didn't want to make a new topic, I am coming up to my first MOT soon and my 3rd service around the same time, what can I expect to pay from Hills Ford?

Had a Zetec S 125 for over two years and it did the same. Just got a Red Edition 140 and it too does the same, if even a little noisier! To use that well worn showroom get-out phrase I would be reasonably sure as others have intimated that it is this time a  genuine 'characteristic'! Heard it in our other cars down the years too. Just 'monitor' it but really would not worry unless gets more drastic.

£204 service, £35 mot.
