Taylor22
Hi I've removed the gear knob by untwisting and took away the gaiter from the car by unclipping the surround and then unclipping the gaiter from this surround but then am stuck at how to pull the gear gaiter away from the gear knob as there is a black bit of plastic connecting the two, I tried pulling twisting etc but just couldn't get it. Help is greatly appreciated!
Stoney871
Two screwdrivers, a vice and a lot of sweating/swearing. Sent from my SM-G930F
Taylor22
How exactly do you do it? Just prise the plastic away with the screwdriver? I didn't see any screws etc
Stoney871
The collar is held on by lugs on the base of the knob. I did one by wrapping the knob in a cloth, securing in a vice and pushing the screwdrivers (one per lug) between the lugs and collar. Taylor22
Not the simple swap I'd hoped for then. I've already snapped the clips on the centre console surround from yanking too hard. I'm come this far though so I'll have to get it done. I'll give this a try although I don't have a vice so will be somewhat tricky
Taylor22
Managed to do it. Wasn't as hard as I thought once I got around to doing it but the whole swapping the gaiter was quite fiddly when taking all the different things into account and probably not worth the hassle for the sake of adding one with red stitching
Stoney871
Glad you're sorted out. End results are always worth the graft
