Ecoboost mpg

Featured Replies

Hi all, does anyone else get similar mpg as me with a Fiesta ecoboost 125, motorway driving 55mpg, no problem but around town only 30mpg, thanks in advance.

First thing to say is EcoBoost 125PS mpg figures appear to be notoriously erratic (?) which immediately begs one obvious question: how accurately calibrated is the readout? Presuming most people rely on the readout as the brim-to-brim method is a bit of a pain whilst also being perilously close to anorak territory! We had a Zetec S for just over 2 years. In the  cooler months with short 5 mile commuter style runs combined with two or three easy 40 milers thrown in each month we returned approx 43/44mpg readily rising to circa 45/46-ish in the warmer months, 47/48 on longer 100 mile combined easy motorway/'A' road journeys (not many). Car mostly kept in garage overnight so no 'freezing' starts. Driving style is 'go with the flow' and well behaved around town, but do enjoy some Italian road tests when the mood and situation is right (Competition background all my life) plus we have a wonderful variety of local roads. Good for car and its driver! Now my own anorak-style contribution: we always fuel with Shell V-Power; run 'light' ie max two-up often one, no heavy spare just repair kit, occasional light luggage; tank usually only 1/2 - 2/3 max or much less. Fuel is heavy. Car loosened-up with 8000+ miles on clock; tyre pressures always a tad 'higher', never 'lower'. Every little helps. The short commuter style  runs were over easy, flowing, rural/urban roads with virtually no stop/start or queueing.

If you do a search the figures/feedback varies quite a lot! A heavy right foot really hammers them for instance; duals/flowing 'A's at circa 60mph would as expected reward you and so on and on... Most representative source I can point you towards is perhaps excellent 'Honest John' website with dedicated figures submitted from many readers. Mine as it happened were reasonably similar to the majority (1L Zetec S 125) of HJ readers the last time I looked at an average of about 44.6mpg.

About 35mog average out of my old one.

43.3 for me, odd though, 90% of my journeys are with only a part warmed engine.

And when it's fully warmed up I have been known to drive it like I stole it....

I reckon the biggest variator is the drivers right foot.

Best to do a tankful to tankful calculation to be sure.

Thanks for the replies, Stoke-on-Trent is quite hilly so I suppose that could make a difference.

Even with my ST I can get 50mpg on motorway runs with cruise set at 75.

I've been hitting 40mpg this week, although i've not been joyful with my right foot, I usually get around 35mpg. Bare in mind that's a 180bhp (200 on boost) so I would expect huge figures on the 125 in comparison.

At least I know if I upgrade in the future I don't have to worry about fuel figures. I average about 37.5mpg on my commute (normal stop start on main roads every 5 mins) and then a commute back on the motorway (1/2 of which is rolling queues).

When I travel down saaarf on a 250m trip I average about 47mpg at around 80ish.! (100PS!)

I've just traded my Zetec S 1.0 in. I was averaging 35mpg in it. Ended up upgrading to an ST-3 and at the moment the only difference in MPG I'm noticing is when my lead foot slips on the right pedal.

36 mpg here, short runs, never really gets hot, heavyish right foot ;)

The greatest thing about all of the fiesta range from Titanium 100-140ps and ZS 100-140ps and ST's 180ps is that they don't have different driving modes. They are always ready.

You can get the 'eco' part out of them and also enjoy the 'fun' part at the cost of mpg and your right leg muscles! It's all about your right foot, must admit, windows down I do enjoy the turbo hissing in the ST.

32MPG for me, always in traffic, when i'm not... the right foot is always down.

I got the same from my 1.4 Titanium and 1.2 Zetec without putting my foot down, same journeys as well!

This is strange reading all these topics on MPG as and a lot seems around 35 to 40 mpg very local driving,i mean just local nothing else

and stop and start/traffic etc.

Being its a 1 litre 3 pot and i can get around 30 out of my 1.6 Ti-vct very local which i would think i would get close to 25mpg.

The big point i must add here ( the car MPG is all over the place and can mess up) so i test mine off App and car as with

the phone App or online you are putting the details in yourself, dont just go off the car one,i think this is why some get very high

reading.
