potential PAS issue

Featured Replies

My son has a 54 plate fiesta and the steering occasionally goes stiff whilst driving, he pulls over turns the car off and back on and the issue goes away, the stiffness comes back again after a certain number of miles. Anyone got an idea of what this could be?

Step 1

Make a visual inspection of the PAS drive belt. If this is wearing old or beginning to crack it could be slipping and causing the PAS pump to fail. If this is failing I'd also be worried about the timing belt as the belts have to be cut off to the change the timing belt.

Step 2

Completely bleed the PAS system with fresh fluid

Step 3

Jack up the car and do an inspection for leaks/visible damage to the system.

That's probably your best starting points then post back with your findings
