Fixed leak in boot

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My fiesta mk6 53 plate leaks in the boot.... or did leak now it's leak free.

I too thought it was coming in through the drivers side light pod...

I too thought it was coming in through the flimsey high brake light seal...

I too thought it was coming in through the vent behind the rear bumper on drivers side....

I even thought it was coming in through the seal around the rear hatch window....

The leak is from under the drivers side light pod, but not the pod itself. To get to it you need to remove the plastic trim which runs across the boot near the catch. Then remove the plastic upright  on right side to gain access to rear of bodywork beneath the light pod. Push the wheel arch carpet cover out of the way, grab a mirror and a torch and look up through the larger square hole the leak is coming from   between two metal panels with a lack of seam sealer....

I used bathroom sealant to seal over all the joints running beneath the light pod and down the back panel. Now i know I've solved  the problem, I've ordered a tube of Sikaflex marine strength sealant  from ebay to fix permanently.... just as soon as I've removed the cheap bathroom sealant.

Hope this helps anyone

Same thing is wrong on my Fiesta,

do you have any pictures to help me solve the problem?

Same thing happened on my wifes Punto. The seam sealer had actually perished on hers though. Scraped it all off with sharp wood chisel, masked off area above and below to keep it neat and then applied new bodywork seam sealer. Let it dry and then painted over.

Fiesta Flame 54 plate.

For me the leak was occurring in the gutter around the top of the boot either at one of the hinges or where the gaiter carrying the electrics enters the body. It was bad enough that the spare wheel well had a puddle in after any significant amount of rain.

I used standard DIY weather proof sealant in one of those gun things around the hinges and gaiter. That cured the problem so I never discovered if it was the gaiter or one of the hinges.

i also had a leak and puddle gathering in the drivers footwell. This was coming in by a failed seam somewhere in the bulkhead above the accelerator pedal, accentuated by having to normally park on a slope. It was impossible to reach to fix but the ugly fix was to drill more holes in the sill which was filling with water and overflowing into the footwell. It will be rusting from the inside now but it’s a fairly utilitarian old car for rough jobs so it is what it is.
