Faster fiesta

Featured Replies

What with hot hatches getting faster and faster,  my car hifi chap reckons it's only a matter of time before ford release a RS fiesta.

The current ST is 182bhp and can be upped to 215, whereas the current VW golf R is I think 290bhp, so ford's hand is really going to be forced imo. The new fiesta is due out next spring wha3t they do with the ST (or RS) version is anyones guess

Opinions and debate...

More power through the front wheels! Why doesn't ford take a step back and make a rear wheel drive Fiesta RS ?

The Focus is Ford's golf rival.

See I'd disagree with that, I see it as fiesta / golf / clio / corsa as all are in the same class size, the focus is bigger edging more towards sirocco /astra territory imo

The polo, well not too sure where that fits in....

Polo is the equivalent of the Fiesta, Corsa, Clio, etc.

Focus is Golf, Megane, Astra, etc.

The polo I always see as a slow golf, the Nissan micra of the VW world lol. But seriously I wouldn't compare a fiesta to a polo same as I wouldn't compare a focus with a golf, I wonder who else agrees / disagrees

Well size/class/price/target market, it's Fiesta vs Polo and Focus vs Golf.

Every car magazine or website compares them this way.

Ka and Up are A segment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-segment

Fiesta and Polo are B segment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-segment

Focus and Golf are C segment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-segment

Mondeo and Passat are D segment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-segment

etc...

aggre with you alex , golf is definatley in the focus segment.

fiesta unladen weight 1045kg, polo 1055kg

focus unladen weight 1300kg golf 1250kg

all dependant on varioys engines and specs but you see the comparison also

Also, as good as the Fiesta RS may be, I'm not sure whether there is any need for one. The current Fiestas are pushing 200, and the Focus ST really is the next step up, without compromising too much on size. If it's merely the power people want, they'll go for the Focus ST/RS. Or they'll map their Fiesta if they want the smaller car. But would a Fiesta RS really give anything that you couldn't get from either of the others? It's sad, because it's great when car makers build for the fun and the customer, rather than the bank, but realistically, I don't think it would be a viable option in terms of production. Maybe a limited run would work...?

When anyone reviews the focus, they always compare it alongside a Golf.

Focus and Golf for me too...

Look at the boot space, Fiesta and Polo both have tiny boots compared to the other two.

Couldnt fit all my tools and the jack in the mk6 Fiesta....its one or the other...so I can either jack their car up or fix it but not both... But seriously, I have to use the Focus for those trips, boot space is one of the main things putting me off the mk7.

focus/Golf/Astra and Seat Leon for me. then Polo/Fiesta/Corsa and Ibiza

Personally think if you want fun get a clio renaultsport same size as the fiesta more fun and more power i think.

Shame the current Clio RS is a flappy paddle though :(

Much prefer a manual box in a car like this.

I was looking at the megane coupe sport before I got my focus.

wow talk about loyal to a brand.haha.

personally I feel safer with power in the size of a golf/focus etc than a fiesta.

I have never been tempted to buy a Renault, but I certainly won't now!

The same goes for any French car with too many electrics though, just a disaster waiting to happen.

Given what happened today, I'm inclined to agree with you there...

I agree on the F(ix) I(t) A(gain) T(omorrow) front.  Personal experience taught me - stay very very very very very very far away.  I had a Grande Punto and good god, it was mostly awful.  The odd day when it all worked was sheer bliss - nothing else could touch it.  But the rest of the time, I wanted to burn the !Removed! thing.  Their warranty at the time was also deeply questionable - 1 year's manufacturer warranty followed by 2 years of an outsourced arrangement to somewhere like Warranty Direct (also another con I have a story for).  Not sure whether this is still the case though.

I'd also recommend that people avoid some of the many cars that share the Grand Punto's underpinnings.  Google for a bit and you will be surprised at what cars come up!
