Where do you like to go on holiday/weekend away?

Featured Replies

Just returned home after a week in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, with my Mum, Dad and my girlfriend and currently having a case of holiday blues... Returned home Friday, had to work Saturday, a real drainer especially with having to come back home to no beach and sea, no nice roads, no nice places to visit as such and the licence to just chill out.

We visited aldeburgh of course, Thorpeness; the house in the clouds. Snape maltings, Southwolds and had a few meals out in Aldeburgh itself.

But my question is... Where do you, or would you like to spend the week? Or just a weekend away?

Cookey.

White sandy beaches of Cornwall and have a little rented stone cottage with woodburner in case it gets cold

Definitely not in France, that's for sure.

Personally fancy a trip to Scotland sometime.

Anywhere on the north Cornish coast is good for a weekend (except when filled with emmets and grockles).

For a good week away it has to be Cyprus.

When she was younger, and would quite happily walk 40+ miles a day, Brandy and i used have long days out just wandering through rural Dorset,  Dartmoor and Exmoor. Parking up and then walking from sunrise to sunset in big circle, obviously it was bigger during the longer days of June than in December.  You can't get very far with less than nine hours of daylight, often in poor weather.

Weekends or periods away, have to be based in dog friendly locations.  We've stayed in, and wandered around the Peak District and North Wales.  We've stayed with some mates of mine, who have a mixed farm in Warwickshire, from time to time.  Where Brandy is encouraged to have a go at being both a drovers dog with their milkers and exploring her collie parentage with their small flock of heritage sheep.

We've walked chunks of the SW Coast path over a few days, staying at dog friendly B&Bs each night: but have never done the whole 630 miles. I was sort of  planning to do it in 2006, over the course of a month but decided in the end  I couldn't realistically be away for a whole month.  Brandy's probably a bit too old now, unless we did it over the course of 5-6 months.

Wandering about the Scottish Highlands and Isles has the same sort of appeal but we've never got there.

Nor have we taken up another mate's offer to come and stay with her and her family in Brittany, the passage to France for Brandy would be too distressing. The ferry operators insists that dogs stay in their cars, on the vehicle deck, only assistance dogs are allowed on he passenger decks  To get to Brittany and keep Brandy happy I would have charter my own boat/or plane:laugh:

Ireland is another country of appeal but that also has the Brandy travel problems of France

Is there a difference then?  I always thought they were the same:unsure:

One is tourists in Cornwall, other is tourists in Devon.

I live half an hour from Aldeburgh, drive out that way for the afternoon a couple of times a month lol.   Shoulda said, could've had a FOC meet lol.

Did you visit the power station while you were there?

As for where I'd go for a holiday, no idea, I can't travel far due to a few 'issues' so just tend to days out within about an hours radius lol.

Too right, Not in the times we live in, I've been to Scotland a few times, one for the Edinburgh marathon which my brother ran, and been to two holiday homes with the girlfriends family, beautiful places. I'll try find the links to where we stayed.

Aha alright nice! It's a lovely area! Some nice roads too! Aha could have done mate, I did see an fiesta st-3 with the ST Owners club sticker on and a couple of focus RS'. I didn't go to the power station mate, no, I did see the white Sphere structure from distance though!😉

I stayed in the house next to priors oak, again, I'll get a link.

Cookey.

barcelona for weekend is nice( child free only though lol)

grand canaria is nice week away any time of the year due to all year round good weather.

since people have started mentioning places abroad (don't know if that was OP's aim? lol) - I'd quite fancy another trip to Vegas

For weekends away, Brighton is a personal favourite for me and the other half. It's got a real buzz and atmosphere to it. Loads of great places to eat and drink too, with some really nice, central B&Bs.

We haven't had a weekend away as 9/10 we're either skint or I have to work my weekend off.  But I'd/we would like to go, Golden Eagle spotting & Northern Lights spotting in Scotland & we'd also like to go to Woolacombe beach.  Tell a lie we've had a night away(kid free) in London for our honeymoon.  Only place we've been and that was with the in laws is Shell Island for a week.  Places to go for a few days or more for me definitely has to be Sweden, always wanted to visit

Some nice places being mentioned! Some good suggestions too! :D

I like the exploring of a holiday home, when you pull up outside and enter the doorway, and get to know the place!

you can go a long way in a week! (vegas, lol) were you looking at closer to uk

I would like to go to Scotland, I've never been even though it isn't far away :D

Certainly back to Canada too, its phenomenal there, and there are so many huge F-Series Fords over there, they are the everyday vehicles

I'm up Edinburgh this October for a long weekend. This'll be the fourth time to Scotland. Canada! I want to go to Canada, always a place i've wanted to visit too! Not too sure whereabouts though, you'd have to give me some advice on where to stay if i ever go ;-)... you say back to Canada? You originally from there or just visited? And yeah i've seen that before on the internet :P they look huge on our roads aha!

ive been to canada, the touristy toronto, niagra falls , cn tower , eaton centre shopping , trips out to wineries, etc trip. was very nice, clean, but cold when i went ( end nov) never felt so cold in my life. i would go again but spring or early autumn.

Just visits :) both times Skiing to Banff and surrounding areas (Norquay, Sunshine and Lake Louise) the snow is perfect! I would really love to do a ranch holiday in the summer too, I bet that is also amazing. We've seen a wolf, moose, elk and coyotes on on the skiing holidays, its truly amazing. And the views! mountains literally all around and they are huge! You can't ever take enough photos, its impossible to tell someone and show them on the computer how great it is, you just have to go and experience it xD
