Galaxy mk2 not start.

Featured Replies

Hi. Wife's galaxy mk2 2.3 ran like it was on 2 cylinders on starting then cut out & now won't start. No sign of any problems before.  Just starting after sitting overnight .Turns over ok but not fire up.No spark through any HT lead.  Code P0351 came up so thought coil or leads? 3 amp "power to on board electronics" fuse in engine compartment had blown.  Changed this but no difference. Also changed relay 30 just incase. Fuel is getting through as plugs covered in it.  After changing coil/leads it still not starts. Wondering any other fuses to be checked?? Any other ideas?
Many thanks in advance Andy

I do not have the Galaxy wiring diagram, but on other Fords, that 3A fuse is an internal feed to the pcm (aka ECU). There may also be a 10A fuse that supplies the ignition coil positive terminals, along with the injectors & other stuff.

You could check that 12v is present on one of the coil connectors when the ignition is on.

Code P0351 is likely to be the coil(s), the wiring to the coils (primary side, rather than HT), or the pcm. Is the same code present after changing the coil(s)?

Peter.

Hi Peter. Thanks for the reply. The code was reset & now no codes are stored. Will check 12v to coil. That should come from lead into it i presume. Hoping it is a fuse or relay & not pcm.

Have checked 12v supply and it is present with ignition on. Guessing that other 2 wires should be live when turning over for firing order? Nothing from theses even when turning over.

The other 2 wires go to the pcm. That unit will pull them alternately down to ground, and then release them just at the point of each firing. So if you measure them with the coil disconnected, you will not see any voltage.

If you can back-probe the connector with the coil fitted, there should be 12v present with ignition on (from the coil +ve), dropping to 6v or less when the engine turns over.
