Hi everyone, was just wondering if anyone had experienced the same issues and had any advice they could share!

I bought my Ford Focus 1.0 ecoboost in 2013. Have never had any issues with the car and it recently passed its first MOT. (Never had a service with ford) car has done 29,000 miles.

2 weeks ago was driving on the motorway, with no warning the car told me to pull over as engine was overheating. The car has not started since. Was recovered at the roadside and taken to my local garage who said that my head gasket had gone and he thinks it has ruined the whole engine. He advised me to ring ford and see what they said as he had no explanation for what or why it happened.

Rang ford who took my car reg and told me there had been a recall on my car. All they have told me is that the recall is related to the head gasket. I have asked for more information and they will not tell me.

Ford have called me today and told me that they have had sign off to fix my car free of charge. (They still haven't told me what's wrong with it, why it happened or if it's related to the recall) when I've asked these questions the only answer I have been given is that they are going to order 63 parts for my engine and basically I should be really grateful that they are fixing it as its outside of warranty and if I had my services through ford they would have fixed this prior to it blowing out my engine.

Has anyone had these problems with the same make/model of the car? Does anyone know what my position is in terms of pursuing a complaint with ford?

recall was for a coolant degas hose, was plastic and when hot got brittle and eventually burst letting all the coolant out quickly. a better designed hose was fitted to stop this issue.

I'm supprised ford are paying for it as you didn't have ford service it. the recall would have been done at any visit to a ford dealer, service or otherwise therefore preventing this situation occurring.

why are you wanting to complain to ford? basically you decided to have your car serviced elsewhere and they didn't have info to action a recall.

Because I bought my car brand new from the ford dealer that is fixing it in 2013z

They contacted me earlier this year for my 3 year service so they have my contact details. I don't understand why they wouldn't say my car had been recalled at that point.

your dealer wont know until you book your car in with them , then a vin enquiry is generated and attached to job card. that vin enquiry will show any recalls relating to your particular vehicle.

that enquiry is generated on the day. if you took your car to another ford dealer and had recall done then the vin enquiry will not show that recall at your dealer.
