Clocks Go Back Tonight.......Why?

Featured Replies

Is it time to stop this biannual farce of changing the clocks to help farmers and the war effort?

My solution is to split the difference ie tonight, go back HALF an hour and then LEAVE IT!!!

Your thoughts please

they need to get rid of it i always forget the car:sad:

There must be a reason to keep it going?

I only realised this year that we have more 'summertime' than normal time lol.

Fortunately most of my clocks are radio controlled so I never have to worry about them.  But I can guarantee I'll crap myself on Monday when I get in the car and see I'm late!

I always forget the car clocks too, and then get very confused come the next working day when I get in to leave and think "why am I one hour early for work!?"...

There's little point to it now, other than to boost the trade of small independent jewellers and watchmakers.  Who find various members of the elderly fraternity are unable to put their clocks back/forward twice a year and commission them to provide a "clock changing service"

It confuses Brandy and Molly, when their breakfasts and teas, are either too early or too late.

There might have been a point to it, when there was no electric lighting and farms didn't have mechanisation.

Near enough all my clocks do themselves, either through their radio control signal or they are connected to my network or the internet of things: apart from the bathroom clock and the cars.

All three of which I forget on the day, and may not get round to for some time after.

The Mk1 still is on GMT, because I didn't get round to putting it forward last March: so that'll save me doing tonight:laugh:

Well, I wasn't wrong!

Drove to Tesco without even noticing the time in the car.  Came out and wondered how I'd spent 1 hour 20 mins buying £20 of groceries!:lol:

British summer time is the bit that changes, the UK should be on GMT all year, but by moving the clocks forward in March and putting them back in October, it gives us longer evenings, rather than wasting daylight while we are all still in bed.

If you went to Tesco in Elgin, 1 hour and 20 minutes is quick for £20 of groceries!!

That's just like Sunday shopping, the only time on a Sunday when you can get round anything approaching "normal time" is 3:50pm, 10 minutes to closing.

I once made the mistake of running out vinegar on a Sunday lunchtime:mellow:

First there was the queue waiting to get in the car park and then the near static traffic crawling around the one way system in the car park, looking for that elusive space. Once inside, there was a queue waiting for the  scan as you shop scanners, they're all out on a Sunday: you have to wait!   Then you have to work your way through throngs of families with multiple trolleys accompanied by crowds of children. Having secured and scanned your 300ml bottle of vinegar; you now have queue again to pay.  And there's always someone feeding all their spare change coin by coin into the terminal, like they've emptied one of those 1 gallon whisky bottles!:wallbash:

Yep!  I know what you mean...
