Air con not working when cold outside

Featured Replies

So having come from a Vauxhall Astra with manual air con I've now got the fiesta mk7 with climate control.

In my other car I left it on all year round as in winter it was great for keeping the inside of the car demisted and dry. In my fiesta though the air con doesn't operate even though the light is on when it gets cold outside so the inside steams up unless I turn the heating right up and then means my windows are fogged up and constantly using the rear/front heated windscreen.

My air con was all checked out at my last service a few weeks ago and was working well but it's now turned cold. The garage say ford fiestas don't run the compressor when it gets cold - the condenser fan cannot be heard either.

Anyone else have this issue.

Have a read in your manual, fairly sure I saw it mentioned in mine that under a certain temperature it will only heat.

I believe that it won't work below 4 deg. C

This is a total pain and makes year round use of the air con impossible. My previous car an Astra it would work all year round. We don't get dry air in this country until at freezing or below. It's very damp is the air. My car windows and side windows are forever misting up and constantly using the rear heater and front screen one.

I guess you could fool the car into thinking it's warmer than it actually is by putting in a sensor that is out of calibration so that at 0c it actually reads 5c etc.

Is there anyone on here that does car electrics.

Ford say they can't change the temp limitation but can fit a resistor in line with the outdoor air temp sensor that will allow the air con to work.

and on the subject of it fogging up. I have manual heater controls. on the big dial there is no setting to have air coming out below the windscreen and the side vents at same time, so I am constantly having to turn the big dial round from one far end to the other far end to keep the windscreen and side windows clear when in traffic. This is a 2015 fiesta.  My 2007 Fiesta had a position on the dial to do both at same time. I can't believe how annoying this is. My wife's Mazda 2 is the same as the 2015 fiesta.   Why have ford gone backwards - isn't it obvious where I need warm air blowing at the same time

The windscreen setting should also demist the front windows as you have smaller vents in the side of the dash. Shouldn't have to adjust anything...

AC only works above 4*c in the fiesta

Not sure where you are, but in the UK I've never had issues with my windows fogging up in the cold. I keep my glass clean, my pollen filter fresh and use the heated and rear screens whenever it does decide to fog up (which is rare)

You Could fit a resistor, but I wouldn't mess with it personally

I've had slight windscreen fogging recently when the temperature has been around zero.   The heated front windscreen, when switched on, clears it in seconds and, although it takes a little longer, the rear windscreen heater is quite efficient.
