2005 Idling issue

Featured Replies

Hello, this is my first time here so forgive me if I am in the wrong place.

My 2005 mk6 Fiesta Zetec is going through some idling issues.

Its been Idling quite high for some time, usually lower(1200) when colder and higher(1500) once up to temperature.

I could hear an air leak and eventually found it to be the breather pipe that sits behind the throttle body had a little split on it.

After covering the whole with my fingers I could hear the revs drop! Great, I thought.... I'll order that new pipe and jobs a gooden...

However when I took the old pipe off I noticed on the side not seen from the front there was a much larger split on the back that would have still been allowing air into it.

I changed the pipe for the new one but when I tried to start the car it would stall immediately every time....

Someone suggested disconnecting the battery for 10-20 minutes to try and reset the ECU. I tried this but it didn't seem to have any effect. Car still stalled straight after firing up.

I've gone back to the old pipe with the massive split in it for the time being and once again covering up the holes in the pipe makes the revs drop.

Has anyone had similar issues and does anyone have any ideas on how to fix?

I was wondering if I needed to disconnect the battery all night?

I feel like the car has got use to poor condition (too much air intake on breather hose) and when the pipe was replaced it was still running on the old air/fuel mix which makes it now stall.

Throttle body has been cleaned out recently. I've also heard you can reset the KAM? any ideas on this?

I am taking it to my mechanic friend today to get it on diagnostics but it won't be IDS as that software doesn't seem to be working for him at the moment.

Many Thanks in advance for this.

Andy

After showing the problem to my friend he told me to put the good hose straight back on. We started the car and it died. We started it again and gave it some revs and all of a sudden it started working properly. It now idles at around 700-800 revs once warm so I think everything is now ok.
