Jack and axel stands Mk7

Featured Replies

Hi folks me again!

Still not done brake discs after a few weeks [emoji51] As a newb I want to make sure I've got it right.

So one thing that's got me is where to jack up and place the axle stands. Watched countless videos and read loads on forums but still not sure. One reason is the safe conclusion always ends up as follow the owners manual.

Lol, it only gives the jacking points! Also my sills don't look very healthy so i'm going to have to now get or mock up some adapters.

Anyway I have a halfords jack and axle stand (quality of this product is not up for discussion on this post - I've read and know what most of think [emoji16] - lol!)

Here's a pic - Three areas I've identified.

A - As per the manual and as the guy does it here on his focus

B - Jacking up from just behind the sill?

C - Placing the axle stand here under the bolt?

What do you guys think?

Bonus Question - do I chock both the front and the back of both rear wheels? The halfords lifting kit I got suggested so but then only comes with two chocks. My understanding is I'm ok to place them in the direction where the car is going against gravity i.e for me just in front of the rear wheels.

Sweet, thanks dezwez!

As for chocking the rears - do I chock both the front and back of the tyre? Or am I ok to just place one on the front of each rear? I.e use just two chocks and not four.

do what make you feel safe that's the main thing it is not worth take risk under cars

i put any wheel that are removed under the car as well so if it was to fall it would hit the wheel and give you room

to get out the way.

Hi folks - the saga continues...

So just jacked up the car and lifted it to the max the jack would go. The plan was to to place the axle stand at point C (see pic above) and just my luck, at the lowest pin setting, it can't get under!! [emoji44][emoji37]

The only way I can do it is using the axle stand without the pin in. Even then it only just fits! However the pins only there to secure the height if needed, right?

How's a guy suppose to put his car axle stands when they're too high??? It's a ¥@*/ standard fiesta!!! [emoji35]

Other prob is the surface area of that part of the car isn't flat so will need something flat on the axle stand itself (which I was going to do anyway) - but will now need to work out a safe depth as there's hardly any clearance!

I tried option A as explained above but there's not much room for the jack and the stand.

Thanks [emoji3]

Already been seeing if there's any local so was going to buy off ebay. However you're right - it would help lift the car those few mm higher so I'm going to see if I can get one specially made. Local joinery is quite good at knocking things up [emoji120]

One problem with wood is under stress it will split.

That's logical! So back to the hockey pucks lol.

Also although I'd like to use point C of my pic above to place the axle stands - like I said there's barely any room when the cars lifted to max and no level surface.

So I'm going to try instead lifting from point C and place the axle stands at point A, also like shown in this vid. So will get some axle stand pads.

***Note to Mk7 fiesta owners new to lifting their cars - if possible get axle stands where the min height is below 300mm / 30cm, if you plan to use them under the central chassis and not the jack points!

I invested in a tilting lift, the rubber floor runs along most of the length of the sill spreading the load,a lot safer.

Yes I've seen these - looks awesome. But as I'm only starting out and learning the basics yet - I can't justify in investing in this. I don't even have a garage, so wouldn't even know where to store it!

If I ever make a full time hobby of fixing cars I'll be investing in garage space and kit like this! Watch this space [emoji6]
