Dipstick Reading

Featured Replies

My son has a 1999 Mk4 Fiesta

I was checking the oil and whilst the dipstick has a slight covering of oil going up about four inches (way past the max) there is no positive level showing

I've wiped it a number of times, and added a little oil to check if it at least cause a positive oil level to show

Confused why I cannot establish how much oil it actually has

Any help appreciated

Tony

It must be very low on oil if you add to much with filling just take the drain plug out to remove some

If there is a "streak" of oil then that isn't a positive reading, so you'll have to keep adding oil and rechecking until it starts to show.  As said, it must be very low.

To be honest, if there is no history to state when it last had an oil change, I'd be tempted to just dump what oil is in there and fill it up again from scratch.

Thanks gentlemen for your advice

I think I'll take it down National and get a filter/oil change to make sure everything is okay

He only passed his test last Wednesday, and I've already replaced two tyres, need to get this oil sorted, and he left a message last night asking did I know anything about exhausts

Ho...Hum....

Is it a 1.25 Zetec by any chance?
