Changing an exhaust on MK6 fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had a look around and pretty sure I could give changing my exhaust system (from back box to the CAT/manifold) just wondering if there are actually any videos of someone doing it themselves? As I can't find anywhere and I've read getting the bolts that attach to the mani/cat are a bit fiddly to get out and it's a one piece system.

If not I might have a look at doing a video myself as I feel like there aren't enough for mk6 DIY guides.

Thanks, Rhys ✌️

I'm presuming it's the 1.25/1.4 engine you have? Either way from the cat back it simple enough.

A blow torch and penetrating sorwy for the studs on the cat will help.

Apologies i forgot to include the model it's the 1.6L zetec s, how does it attach to the back? (Not sure what fixings would be used). And yeah good shout don't they have a tendency to seize up?

I'm not overly familiar with the 1.6 but it'll be much the same. The exhaust is supported on rubber mounts/hangers.

The biggest problem with any  modern exhaust  will be at the cat as the thing gets that hot the bolts (even on a newish system) can be difficult to undo. Some times the only way is to cut and/or grind them off and replace with new(probably need new even if they do come off). As stef123 says a good blowtorch and penetrating oil will often work well too on stubborn nuts. Most cars come with a one piece system so you nearly always have to chop the old one some where to get it off . New systems usually come in several parts so you can mix and match ie resonated or not resonated de cat or cat .But in real terms the job in itself is not to bad just more difficult when lying on your back on the  cold floor in the winter

When I replace a full exhaust I normally stick the front wheels up on a set of ramps and use axle stands at the rear.

A set of spiral extractors are good on exhaust bolts but the said, you could always drill out any bolts that shear off.

Completely different car but here is an exhaust I replaced recently on a Fiat. I cut the studs of flush with the flange and drilled them out and just used M8 bolts to replace.
