Cause of Diesel smell in car

Featured Replies

I stripped down to the injectors on my 06 Fiesta 1.4 tdci because there were diesel smells in the car and smoke coming from under the filter and I expected to have to renew the injector seals. However. I found that one of the return pipes that clip into the bottom of the injector was swinging freely. Could this be the cause of the smoke and fumes? Would a new pipe and clip be the answer or do I still have to get the injectors out and replace the seals?

is there are sign of leaking around injectors, wet diesel, black tar where the diesel has 'cooked' and possibly ash if been like it too long

Yep, plenty black tar and coal like stuff down there, mainly around the injector with the loose fitting return pipe which is why I suspected, (or hoped) that the leaky pipe was the problem. Am I being too optimistic?
