Strange Sound Occurring When Idle

Featured Replies

Hi all, new guy here! I've got a problem with my car, not sure if I should be overly concerned.

I noticed a sound coming from the engine bay, I can't hear it inside the car but it's quite loud when outside and the car is idling. It sounds like a little like someone shaking a small-ish chain, like a high-ish pitched, very fast metallic clanking sound. It seems to be coming from the drivers side and seems to stop when I rev the car.

It doesn't drive any differently, and there's no warning lights appeared. I've tried googling around but I can't find anyone with a similar problem.

I was supposed to drive home from university tonight but I don't feel 100% about that. Reckon I'm being a little paranoid or should I get it looked at?

I don't think anyone can really give an opinion without hearing it.

do you have breakdown membership? you could ring them and say your cars making a strange noise and it sounds like it's not safe to drive. if you don't have home start you will need to drive away from your home.
