Query abou SYNC connectivity

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've recently bought a Black Ford Fiesta 2013 (63) 1.25L 82bhp 5dr.

However, I've noticed this model doesn't come with SYNC. I originally thought that all models from 2013 came with SYNC fitted.

I'm not necessarily bothered about the fact my car doesn't have SYNC, but my question is - what models of Fiesta did they start bringing in the sync, and would there be an explanation as to why mine hasn't got it?

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Ian. Apologies if I get things wrong, I'm new to the car scene. I'm 18 and passed my test November 2016. I wanted a fiesta as I learned in one. They are a dream to drive and I said, sync doesnt necessarily bother me as such - its just something that could have come in handy.

And nope, no bluetooth in the car at all :)

Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC (depending on production date) was an optional extra which had to be ordered seperately. This option was also included in some option packs.

If your car does not have Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC it simply means that the 1st owner has not selected this option or an option pack that contains this option when the car was ordered.

Thank you very much for the reply.

It makes sense now, I can see.

Would it be possible to have SYNC installed to the car with a new console? Or is that not a feasible option? It has the USB port already btw.

Retrofitiing the original Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC system can be done without problems. However a lot of parts and labour are involved.

Cars without the optional Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC system have the standard Low Level audio system. Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC is part of the (more advanced) High Level audio system. The Premium Sony audio system is also based on the high Level audio system.

The Low Level audio system has different/less wiring than the High Level audio system. This basically means that the complete dashboard wiring loom needs to be replaced or the missing wiring need to be added to the existing wiring loom. In both cases a lot of labour is involved.

The following parts are at least needed:

* Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC module (version depending on production date of the car).

* ACM (Audio unit) that supports Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC(version depending on production date of the car).

* FCDIM (Display) that supports Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC(version depending on production date of the car).

* High Level (or Sony) radio control panel.

* Microphone.

* Steering wheel control switch with Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC button (version depending on production date of the car).

* Dashboard wiring loom for Bluetooth/Voicecontrol or SYNC.

* Roof wiring loom (including the microphone wiring).

After all parts are installed the system needs to be configured correctly using a suitible diagnostic system.

I was unaware that the SYNC system used High Level audio.

That's soo much work, ahah! I'm surprised why the first owner chose not to have it,  It would come in handy. Ah well, that would probably be at least £800 to do all of that, I don't think I'd bother! :P

Thanks for the information
