Car insurance legal assistance

Featured Replies

Hi all

I am trying to keep my costs down on my car insurance and I can have legal assistance on my policy for another £30.67.

But I wondered if any of you have a stand alone policy for that.

And if so who with and how much.

Thankyou in advance for your replies and advice.😀

My parents had it on their home insurance although they didn't know it. It came to light when they were hit by an uninsured driver who claimed he was on a garage fleet policy that insured him to drive any vehicle purchased by him or his business for the purpose of test driving. The car he was driving at the time did not fit any of those criteria, his passenger was killed instantly who also happened to be his blood cousin and his sisters husband, bizarre. Anyway, because they had LA on a different policy it could be applied to that situation which was a god send as the MIB investigations do not come cheap.

I never used to get it with my policies nor did I have it as a stand alone. With experience I would never be without it. At £30 odd per year and a driving span of maybe 50 years that's £1500. or thereabouts but 1 claim on it would be over 10 times that.

Sorry it doesn't answer your question much but if it helps with the question 'is it worth having' then that would be good

I will purchase legal assistance but wanted to know if anybody has gone down the seperate route as I believe it to be cheaper.

Never meant it to sound like I assumed you were thinking against it @ ZetecMan1 sometimes the car insurance company will give a discount on the cover though if you ask. I'm always quite up front with them and just say 'here's what I'm looking for and here's how much I'm prepared to pay' I can't be bothered with the 'dance' before you get the deal lol I'd be interested to hear how you get on and what you find to be the cheapest if you don't mind updating?

I have it on my policy. I always think for 20/30 quid why not. That said, when I had my accident, they only seemed interested in being an ambulance chaser. When I said I wasn't hurt or out of pocket because my employer was good about it, they weren't interested in helping me. This was in spite of the other driver ending up being uninsured and me needing their help. I think the ones you get through insurance aren't as impartial as they should be. Nominated for, paid by, acting on behalf of not you...

I had a friend in an accident where she was not at fault and some nutter just reversed into the side of her car. She had legal assistance on her policy (hastings direct) and they were not much use at all in the end she went to one those "no win no fee" places
