Fiesta MK7 engine malfunction but no ECU error code

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, on the way to work this morning dash showed the error "engine malfunction" and went into limp mode, I got the car home and put a cheap eBay obd2 Bluetooth scanner on it but torque said there were no errors on the ECU, is this because the adapter is a cheapy or would this error not record on the ECU?

Was the CEL/MIL on as well?

Some faults do clear themselves although I would imagine (and I am only assuming) that anything that would put the engine into limp mode would be severe enough to warranty a latching code with associated freeze-frame data.

If all is now clear you might just need to wait for it to happen again and, if/when it does, scan for code immediately without turning the ignition off.

I would hope that Torque would know (and report) if the adapter positively reported the absence of any codes rather than just failed to read any, if you see what I mean. There are some modules that a cheap OBD adapter would not be able to communicate with but even the most basic should have access to all OBD data which would include engine-related limp-inducing issues.

Yes the CEL/MIL did light up, I parked up and turned the engine off for 5 minutes and when I turned it back on everything seemed fine, the strange thing is the car felt alot smoother this morning before the problem started I suppose this could be due up weather / temperature

if it does it again and still no code and you report back on here, please let us know which engine you have
