Car shuts down off after about 30 seconds of running

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've got a problem with my car when the engine starts after about 30-40 seconds it shuts down. Then when it shuts down it doesn't want to start and the engine needs to rest for less than a minute and then it starts normally.

I just changed the filters and oil on friday but I don't think that could have any impact.

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

My car is Fiesta 1.25 82hp

Thanks

I guess you also changed the fuel filter?

When we're the plugs last changed?

The coil pack is also prone to failure on thess

Was the problem existent before you changed the filters?

Thank you for reply. I haven't changed the filter and in petrol version of Fiesta there isn't fuel filter.

i also replaced the battery recently as I had problem with it.

No the problem was not existent. The car has only 9k milage.

There is a fuel filter... It's just a 'lifetime' filter, didn't realise you had a newer one.

Have you fitted the air filter and hoses correctly?

When we're the plugs last changed?

Are the battery terminals tight Nd secure?

I wasn't fitting the air filter but mechanic did.

The plugs haven't been changed since the millage is really low.

I checked all the connections.

could it be the fuel? I did refuel the car about 35 miles before the problem occured.

Did you put the right fuel in?

Yes, of course

Might sound obvious, but is the car throwing any codes? Is it exactly the same amount of time each time it dies, or does it vary at all. If it's the same time then it could be caused by the car going from open into closed loop, which happens quite quickly on a Fiesta.

If the car is still under warranty then ship it back to Ford for them to fix, this sort of thing shouldn't really happen at 90,000 miles, nevermind 9,000.

Unfortunately the car is not under warranty. At about 2k the car had the accident and left front was hit but that wasnt something serious.

It does vary and and its not exactly the same.

I'm arranging visit to mechanic today.

Today mechanic found out that the camshaft position sensor is broken. Could it be because of the accident?

Anything can be broken in an accident (depending on the nature/severity of course!) and whilst it is non-contact and therefore not physically vulnerable it does operate in a hostile environment where a bump may finish off an electrical problem that was already starting to emerge.
