Fiesta 2011, 1.4 Petrol

I went to fit a Dash Cam to my daughters Fiesta this weekend only to find the Power Socket by the Gear Lever permanently live
Never come across this before ?
My own 2014, 1.4 Fiesta,  the socket is only live when the ignition switch is in the aux position
Dont fancy leaving a Dash Cam live 24/7,  with the vehicle unattended
Is this feature normal on some models ?
Where could I find an easy accessible  supply operated by the ignition key ?

    I reccommend (depending on the manufacture) getting a fuse box to dash cam converter. I know NextBase do one as that is what I have.

     

    Using one of these, you can wire it up to a fuse such as the radio or similar so it turns on with that but then turns off when the engine stops running. Doing this you can also hide the cable away very neatly, meaning less chance of it getting tripped up on if people are getting in/out the car.

    The aux socket turns off after ten mins once the power saver relay drops out. It is not always live.
