Help on rail or something to get into car (fiesta)

Featured Replies

I have a fiesta 2011 Tit and i have put a good quality armrest in but i have a problem that i cant solve or know how to.

I take my elderly dad out when i can which is not a lot of times now, i care for him 24/7 but its hard to get him into the car and back out as he has nothing

to put pressure on only the handbrake or armrest but armrest is not 100%solid so will give way and handbrake aint the best thing, the armrest is forward more

than the genuine one so a lot better to get but not solid, genuine one would be way to far back to twist and get with right hand.

Is there any advice or anyone on here put some sort of rail or device by the the handbrake where he can grab to get in and out.

Have you looked at the Car Cane?

thats what i was thinking about but couldnt remember the name so didnt comment good bit of kit that.

Thats a good thing, will look at that but its mainly the right hand so he can move into the right place when getting in.

He is 89 so not a lot of strength so i try to help the left side so when i lift he puts his hand down on the handbrake side.

Maybe if you use the Car Cane in conjunction with a car seat swivel he can support himself on the left side alone, so you can move to the right side to give him something to grab onto

If the handbrake is strong enough to support him but just in the wrong position or too low down there are handbrake mobility aids that may help

Or you may be able to get a machine shop to fabricate something similar to sit on the handbrake

good idea with that but wouldnt the pressure push the button in and then it would go down causing all hell of problems then.

as carl said what about getting a machine shop to fab a quick lock clamp which goes on the main body of the hand brake which then has maybe 20/30 cm neck with a t bar on the end, sort of what carl put up but clamps straight to the neck of the handbrake.

That handbrake thing is the exact thing i would be after but like said would the handbrake be strong enough.

Have had one of those car cane just the other side.

I was thinking something to screw to the body of the car to the left of the brake.

Got 2 of them swivel cushion and there great just not very good sitting on it for 2 hours so i remove it when in,use one for bed.
