Reverse Gear Not Engaging Properly

Featured Replies

Just taken possesion of my mums Fiesta.

The car only has 7500 miles on it.

Thing I have noticed and which some on here say is normal and it does this occasionaly is it feels like reverse is succesfully selected but when you let the clutch out sounds like two gears are just just catching each other and they aren't fully meshed.

I need to take it out of gear and neutral then put it into reverse again!

I try and make sure its fully shoved into gear to avoid problems.

Is this really a known fault on a car with so few miles on the clock?

No synchromesh on reverse -- it's normal unfortunately.

Make sure car is stopped and clutch fully down before going into reverse. Holding it in place while lifting clutch helps.

It seems to only happen when the car is on my driveway parked down the way and reversing back up!

Thanks anyway I was worried it might be the tranny fluid or synchromesh damaged!

This seems to be a problem on most Fords.   I've had three Fiestas and a Focus and they have all had this problem.

My Peugeot has this problem where it would sometimes not engage into reverse. I'd put it in neutral, clutch up then down then it engages however it crunches in. I've recently bought my mk6 fiesta 1.6 tdci and I would say there have been times where I would have to put a little more force into reverse gear. Does it crunch? I've heard that's a common problem on these cars however I don't know if it's different for each engine size. I'd say I've crunched it twice when going into reverse

Sadly, selecting reverse is dire.

My old 1.4 Corsa :wallbash:was brilliant.
