Steering rack lash adjustment

Featured Replies

I have a knock from the rack and need to adjust the lash. Has anybody done this?

i have done it on cars in the past but can't advise you exactly how to do it on that one.

What I will say is: if you adjust it you need to check the rack runs smooth lock to lock. As the rack spends most of its time  nowhere near lock to lock, the rack can wear where the adjuster pushes down on it but that wear will not be on the rack at the far ends so you can adjust it so it feels fine for most of the travel but then gets tight near the extremes of lock to lock

I am well aware of the procedure, but my question is actually about the adjuster. Normally there is a lock nut, but this seems to be one piece. I have read that it is locked by using a center punch to peen over the threads on the rack body ( you can see a small dot at about 1 o clock on the picture).  I was wondering how much effort is needed to get the adjuster moving again.
