Getting my first MK7 2010 on Friday, anything I should be aware off?

Featured Replies

Greetings all!

My first post on the site. I have owned Fords since I started driving 10 years ago now and I love them all! The last Ford I owned was my beloved Mondeo MK3 which I converted over time to look like "Zetec ST" but then I had kids and didn't want the hassle of maintaining it so I had to sell it on. Here is a pic for anyone interested....

Plenty more of them for those who are interested. Maybe I will post a "journey" of it somewhere on here later. Moving onto the purpose of this thread now.....

I'm picking up this little car on Friday....

Never owned one of these yet so I'm looking forward to it (the wife more so, but that's because she ain't paying....). I wanted to know if there is anything I should look for during my ownership such as common faults, early warning signs etc., and also what upgrades could I look into installing or adding? I'm past the stage of body-kits and all that jazz, I'm more into my comforts and gadgets these days like leather seats, parking sensors etc.

Thanks for reading!

Which engine is important for this question.  E.g. tdci might have problems with dpf/maf/etc ecoboost has a (generally resolved) problem with the degas coolant pipe.  Probably other answers for the na 1.25...

The only negative is the engine doesn’t have much punch. It will happily hold 80/90mph *cough* 70 officer, honest *cough*

but just takes time to get there. The AC drains power if you’re trying to accelerate rapidly, and the headlights are awful, I’ve upgraded mine to LED’s.

other than that, it’s a great car.

Open the air box, lift up the filter, remove the snorkel that sits in the bottom of the air box and enjoy an engine that's happier to rev and gives better cabin sound for no expense. You've saved £150 on an induction kit.
