05 Connect 1.8 TDCI black smoke issue.

Hi Guys.

First post as found this forum and looking for ideas.

My 05 connect just had a new exhaust fitted and now all the fumes are going out the rear I can tell the extent of the black smoke.

At about 1.6k rpm when the turbo kicks in there is an obvious cloud of black smoke when looking in the rear view mirror and it's quite frankly disgusting!

It passed the MOT recently for emissions and on idle it doesn't smoke or make any weird noises. Does it hot or cold.

I asked the mechanic who did the MOT and they suggested I run a bottle of Redx through the system and buy some decent diesel fuel to try and see if this will remove any internal gunk.

I've run half a bottle of red x (the diesel version) so far and not noticed any change and I've run it on the highway for a third of that tank.

Is there anything else I should get the mechanic to check or test? The engine appears to work as it should, I just don't want to be covering innocent pedestrians or cyclists in disgusting black diesel smoke.

The engine is on about 113k miles.

Thanks for any tips!
