***** engine conversions!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’ve got a mk6 Zetec S fiesta and was just curious about what it takes to swap the 1.6 engine with the 2.0 ST engine? I would imagine the mounts for engine and gearbox would be the same and I’m assuming you would need the ST wiring loom and ECU? Is there anything else you’d need? Also if anyone has done this what was it like to do?

Thanks everyone!

Joe

Wouldn't it be better to just get an ST? Insurance might be cheaper compared to spending money on an engine and other parts plus you get the ST 17 inch alloys and ST embroided seats and rear beam disc brakes.

It takes probably about the same or even more money than it would be to sell your car and just buy an ST.

You'd need engine, gearbox, driveshafts, exhaust, ECU, keys. You're then looking at brakes and suspension to do the full conversion. Insurance will be higher if you swap the engine too. I assume you have all the necessary tools too?

I did ponder over that but the plan was to buy the engine and leave it in my garage, take it apart and build it up a lot more powerful than it was before. I’ve got the 30th anniversary one at the moment but that was the plan.

I probably wouldn't touch it. Firstly it's an ani so it could be worth something due to its rarity. Might be worth more with the ST engine don't know but again you'll need to see.

What does your 1.6 engine have electric or fluid power steering? I have a zetec s but with the 1.6 diesel engine and that has a electric power steering pump. I think the ST has power steering fluid (don't know if it's due to space) under the bonnet.

A local guy had an Anni with an ST engine swap...was pretty hard to sell!

It's best to buy a rear ended ST as a donor if you do want to do the swap, there's a lot more to it than just the engine.

As for power steering, the diesels have electric PAS mainly for lower emmisions for the cheap tax...the petrols aren't designed for low emmisions lol.  The ST likes to boil PAS fluid so it might be worth relocating the fluid res while swapping the engine.

Hi,

If you need any help with insurance at all for this type of conversion then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.
