Light in drivers footwell...expert needed!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a MK7 fiesta zetec 1.6TDCi and am a driving instructor.

Can anyone tell me, is there a way I can keep the drivers footwell light on constantly.

As it's dark in the evenings so early, it would be really handy for watching my pupils feet (coasting/early braking etc).

If there is an easy way of turning it off and then back on, great. But I'd settle with on all the time whilst the engines runnning (at least for another couple of months anyway)

cheers

can no one help?

you would probo have to rewire the underfloor lights to a permanent live feed such as the cigar lighter i should think it's more hassle than its worth. would be easier just to drive about with the door slightly opened lol

do they come on when you put on the interior light?

No, only when you open the door and for about 10 seconds after closing it. It's a shame if it can't be done as may have to see if I can buy some battery powered strip lighting. Does anyone know where to get that? obviously can't be too bulky.

Cheers

just get one of those cheap stick on led lights, asda or bq have them for a few pounds.

Have you asked your dealer? i know they can be useless but worth a try!

Maybe able to wire in another LED from a battery maybe? dont good with electricity really so maybe not the best person for advice :D

Thanks for all your comments. The dealers are useless and am still having a nightmare with the CD skipping after the car being in 4 TIMES for it...so won't bother ssking them.

Will look at going down the strip lighting route. Cheers

Hi Bashy,

If the light comes on when you open the door it must be working of your pillar switch, in which case you should be able install a separate switch with one wire to earth and the other spliced into the feed wire on the back of the pillar switch. In effect the new switch would act as the pillar switch without effecting the opperation of the original pillar switch.

Hope this helps.

PS Dont forget to check which wire is swiching live or neutral. :)

Surely, if you are a driving instructor you have pedals on the passenger side aswell..... Surely you'd be able to see pedal movement, i.e braking and coasting on your side.

Go to an auto electricians, they are hardly going to charge you a fortune.
