Cleaning/Repairing interior Door Handles

Featured Replies

Had my car a couple of weeks now and just doing some general tidy ups to get the car up to "scratch" [emoji6]. Anyway the drivers interior door handle is bothering me, don't know if the previous owner wore a fist full of rings but they certainly scratched the hell out of it, just wondered if there was a product anyone can recommend to bring them back? Would a metal polish do the job??572d17771ce455ee5b6c44f39233f31f.jpg

In the same boat myself. I would say no to metal Polish as it may remove the coating. I would try something like Maguiars scratch x or ultimate compound followed by paint Polish. When I get time I will test it out.

I don't think you'll ever be able to successfully disguise or polish out the scratches so if they really bother you (they would me!) your best bet might be to get a good one from a scrappy and change it.

You could mask up the area and buff it using a drill attachment and some very fine polishing compound like used to buff chrome trim.

I don't know if it's an anodised finish or satin chrome but either way buffing it enough to take out the scratches will significantly change the surface finish and it won't match the others.

Yeah that's the concern I have about just going to town on it, replacement seems to be the only viable answer... Anyone done this before?

That's a weird place for scratches...who's grabbing the wrong end of the handle!?  Unless they're holding a bunch of keys while opening the door maybe...

Either way, I'd either put up with it or buy a new one lol - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/11-15-New-Genuine-Ford-Focus-Mk3-Driver-right-front-rear-interior-door-handle/162890879340?hash=item25ed0d916c:g:QoEAAOSwkV5aer2o

Ordered a replacement, should have it next week, a Google search of dismantling the door suggests replacing it should be fairly straightforward

Replaced, might have a bit of a play with the old one to see if they can be cleaned up :-)
