tamollets
Hi guys, New here but i really need some advice before i fork out however much it is going to cost me. I came off the motorway last night and heard this sound coming from the engine area, and luckily i was close to home. Parked up and had a look but couldn't make out anything. Had a look today after a cold start and noticed wafts of smoke coming out from near the cylinders. Here is a little video i recorded before i decided to turn the car off since it worried me. I also attached a bluetooth reader which managed to pull off a fault code, P0201, which i don't know much about but it doesn't look like the cause. Any helpful advice is appreciated. Thanks
pragmatix
Can't get to see your video, what colour smoke was it? What engine, petrol or diesel? That code may well produce smoke if it's unburnt diesel it could be black, blue is usually oil, white is normally a blown head gasket.
Iaintruten
Hi welome mate, P0201 is injector 1 malfunction, you would need to check the plugs on the injectors then find out your cars firing order to locate injector 1, but first you would need to check if that cylinder is misfiring FORScan may be able to do it Im still not 100% with FORScan yet as I just came from vauxhall, someone else may be able to tell you if FORScan can do that, if it is misfiring you would need to take the injector out find what it's resistance should be by looking at the manufactures spec and then check it with a multimeter and if it's poor compared to what it should be you would need to replace the injector. If your not confident with injectors I would put it into a specialist. Hope that helps mate.Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk 1

It looks like white smoke to me, but could also be really, really light blue smoke. I've noticed a bit more smoke when starting in the morning, cold start, but the noise only appeared last night. 2 hours ago, Iaintruten said: Hi welome mate, P0201 is injector 1 malfunction, you would need to check the plugs on the injectors then find out your cars firing order to locate injector 1, but first you would need to check if that cylinder is misfiring FORScan may be able to do it Im still not 100% with FORScan yet as I just came from vauxhall, someone else may be able to tell you if FORScan can do that, if it is misfiring you would need to take the injector out find what it's resistance should be by looking at the manufactures spec and then check it with a multimeter and if it's poor compared to what it should be you would need to replace the injector. Also removed the dpf. I'm thinking of scrapping the car and buying a petrol version of the car. Shouldn't cost a lot more than what the cost of this job will turn out to be. Iaintruten
I know how you feel that's how I traded my 2.0cdti astra J in and went for the 2.0tdci focus as I was constantly getting issues on my astra including the dpf which I also removed, I would say injector then as if 2 have already been replaced it's more than likely the other 2 won't be far behind. But you will know yourself injectors aren't cheap. I would find out which 2 were replaced if you can and the see if it ties up with the one that's throwing the fault code and see if it is one of the original ones.Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk I'll takke it to the garage that did the work. They should have what they did on file somewhere, i hope, and see what the likelihood of it being an inexpensive job. Though if the head gasket is on it's way out... might b expensisive and time to get rid. Also how come you went for diesel again?
Iaintruten
Just prefer the diesels and doing the mileage to justify it, the problem with the astra was I bought it low mileage and 3 years old so the dpf was on the road out due to it only having done low mileage, won't make that mistake again lol.Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
tamollets
Update Took the car to the garage and he checked the injectors, no issues thank god, and replaced the seals which solved the problem. He also mentioned that the issue with the code is due to the glow plugs and it's better to replace them all rather than one, so wait until they all fail.
