My '58 Mk 6.5 Fiesta has this as standard, and it can cause a "bobbling" noise on the overrun, which a lot of people like. I recall the Rover P6 had this feature, to get rid of acidic condensate from the rear 'box. Other "DIY" types drilled a hole themselves, and fitted a self-tapping screw for the MoT, then removed it.

You learn something new every day - I'd never heard of an exhaust drain hole either. Found this (http://www.bosal.co.uk/Portals/9/Local/Docs/AM01_Drain_Hole.pdf) which is pretty interesting.

I'd never even thought of searching for a 'drain hole' on the forum when I found my exhaust leaking,I'd never heard of that either?

Good job I took a picture of it, sent it to the dealer and said my exhaust is leaking. They had my car in today to look at it phoned me back and said it's supposed to be there ........ guess they didn't look at the pic/know about it; would have saved my a journey or two :(
