  1. Pipper seems to have a hankering to be a washing machine engineer

  3. I do like having a very long extended walk with Pipper, even though it was raining. We did about 36 miles or so over the course of 9-10 hours, and she would've been happy to go further; spaniels like collies don't seem to tire easily. I, however, was starting to get a bit hungry Following the old railway line (that's now a bridleway) into the outskirts of Poole and then a Roman/old quarrying road to the northern foreshore of Poole harbour. We then sort followed the coast, either on it or on roads that ran near it, until we came down to the beaches of Sandbanks. Once on the beach, we kept going to till we were below Southbourne, where we left the beach and walked along the B3059 into Christchurch, and then out the other side to pick up the Avon Trailway. Just after Sopley, we left the trailway and headed towards West Parley and on to Ferndown. Essentially doing a big loop on where we had come from, but 8-10 miles north. We then had a detour in Ferndown Forest and met some huskies, who were practising wheeled sled racing. Pipper and some of the huskies who were waiting for their turn with the sled, had a group sniff of each others bits. We then left the forest to go back towards Hampreston and pick up the river Stour path (east of where we walked yesterday) to come back into Wimborne and then home. Now I've stopped, both my quads and glutes feel rather stiff It wasn't a strenuous walk, so I'm not entirely sure why

  4. I like my dad's new car port! It's great to have my beloved Focus protected when I visit! Although I will have some competition from the Range Rover and Aston (when it arrives) but one of them may be magically parked elsewhere when I visit. It's not quite finished but till do for now. Shame my car is covered in salt! I hate winter. Oh and I also like my new dashcams that were fitted last week!

  7. To be honest I'd trust Pipper to work on my washing machine more than I would half of the "engineers" advertised locally...

  8. Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance. Has great dry grip as you'd expect from any tyre, but it's really the wet grip that makes it stand out. Quieter than most tyres too.

  10. Exactly Still, much quieter than the vast majority of diesels. And no DPF/turbo issues to deal with either!

  13. I do like taking Pipper for her first extended stroll, up to Wimborne, then along the river Stour, to Cowgrove (which today lacked the huge crowd of cows that are normally there - perhaps they all being milked at the point we passed). We then went up the Roman road, through Kingston Lacy estate and on to Badbury Rings. where Pipper introduced herself to a pair of Rotties (brother and sister) and three unrelated Standard Poodles. We returned a slightly different route, eventually meeting up with and following the river Allen back into Wimborne. Here's some Pipper is now having a post walk snooze beneath my chair, using both her cuddly haggis and my jeans as a pillow Pipper watching as I pick up her lead, 5 hours ago, before we set out. Pipper, requesting non-stop stroking whilst I'm typing one handed Pipper, watching her bowl about to touch down on the carpet Another snooze, this time after tea

  14. Although the interior in your Golf may feel a little more premium than the Focus, take a Focus out for a thrash on some windy roads and you'll soon 'feel' the difference in terms of steering feedback, cornering grip etc.

  15. Hello everyone! I don't have a photo yet, hoping someone can help me identify this part, if not I'll take one when the rain calms down! Just topped up my screen wash and noticed a broken rubber pipe hanging down by the battery, I found the other part of the tube and it has a rectangular part on the end that says fomoco cjnka, there are no electrical connections on the part it's literally just a rubber pipe. Any ideas people? I think it may be a breather pipe for something?

  19. Thanks Chris, I'm sure you'll get your hands on a red one soon. As for the mileage... Well, you know me! I drive a lot, so I can't promise anything. I am rigorous with my maintenance though, so fully expect both engines to last over 200,000 miles. I haven't seen you pop up here in a while, hope everything is alright!

  25. tearing young drivers apart for wanting to mess around with their car because "it makes no difference" it's crazy! Lol remember we where all young once bin there done it and got the tee-shirt. It's just considered advice you don't have take any of it. You've changed it out and you are happy with the results that's all that matters even thought you have probably lost a few BHP in the process, lol makes a lot of induction noise don't it .As you get older you soon learn that Mom and Dad was right and not so crazy after all.

  27. After checking on a Ukrainian and a Turkish Fiesta website (thanks Google translate!) It's the gearbox breather pipe, apparently I can just cut the pipe square and reattach the end piece, only problem is it's quite a long piece of hose that broke off so it won't reach to the original location to clip back on to looks like a cable tie job for now until I can either replace or join the broken pipe. Thanks for the quick replies!

  31. We've got cats and so the risk profile is obviously different to dogs however they do have the same fact in common that they are our life and we would put their best interests before ours if need be as I'm sure many other animal lovers would too! In our case we self-insure - not just with the cats but for pretty much everything else i.e. boiler cover, whitegoods cover, car warranties etc. The only exceptions are home and car insurance given the legal obligations. This strategy has paid off insofar that all the money we would have paid out on premiums for these continues to be less than that which we have forked out dealing with insurable incidents across the board. Something to bear in mind is the risk that having pet insurance means that you might then take a 'money no object' approach. This sounds like nothing but a positive but the negative is that you could end up keeping your loved ones alive for your own benefit and not theirs given that you wouldn't have money concerns as a contributory factor - indeed you might even feel an obligation to throw money at whatever treatments might be available given that's what you bought the insurance for. However, as a vet once told me - 'better to let an animal go a week early than a day too late' - and this is a mantra that I really believe in. If an animal's cards are marked then sometimes the best thing you can do is to let them go - assisted if need be - rather than putting them through treatments that may at best sometimes only lead to an extension to length of life but at the risk of overall quality. We found ourselves in this position last year with a dear cat of ours, Elmo, who had what was initially assumed to be arthritis but turned out to be a rare bone cancer. We could have put him through chemotherapy etc, despite the high costs, even without insurance but the vet was very clear on the fact that it wouldn't cure him but merely just give him longer to live. We made the difficult decision of putting him to sleep *before* he started to really deteriorate. This was only a difficult decision at the time though; afterwards we knew we'd given him the best gift we could ever done - avoidance of suffering - and that with him 'leaving on a high' as it were it meant he'd had the best life he could ever have done, even if it wasn't the longest. We are in the fortunate position of being able to spend hundreds, even thousands, on our cats if need be and if the situation warrants it and so perhaps insurance makes less sense for us anyway as a result. For those with less disposable income though I can certainly understand that insurance might be more beneficial if it means less critical illnesses etc can become affordable. You've got to remember with insurance that you'll only know in hindsight if it was the best decision or not and on that basis perhaps there's no right or wrong!

  39. Yeah I can't wait. It's actually for my wife but I think I'm more excited than she is! The long(er) term plan, once/if any novelty etc has worn off, is to consider a Superchips remap to push it up to the claimed 140bhp/245nm mark just for that extra bit of extra poke.

  41. I don't like a 60 mile round trip in the Focus tonight to get £5 worth of CDs for my mother... I wouldn't have minded so much if 90% of the journey didn't involve narrow country roads in the pitch dark and heavy rain. That said, there were a couple of positives to it which I will post in the "do like" thread.

  43. I have the Zetec 1.6 automatic, very happy with it, as said before can't be doing with all that messing about with a gear lever. Quiet nippy but trying to overtake at times requires a bit of forethought as the kick down is not all that impressive. Uses a fair bit of juice driving around town. To quote Adrian, I am also an OAP, 82 young so my days of a boy racer have long gone. Yes I love my Focus.

  46. Jesus H Christ is this still going on??? If you are that bothered about it but a 15 year old plus car you will be lucky if it even has a working rear heated window let alone anything else. And let's not start about heated mirrors that come on with the rear heated screen, goodness next we will need to be able to actually see out of our wing mirrors lol Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk

  47. From my experience in a smaller ford dealership for 13 yrs, we only did 1 engine on a focus and that was due to the known coolant pipe breakage. Maybe our customers were lucky?? So out of the 1000's of ecoboosts we saw each year , 1 in 4 years.
