  3. I'll echo what FOCA says about the blanking plate. I noticed a difference straight away. Careful with the DMF as well. If I give my car a moderate amount of boot now, there is a small amount of quiver around 1800 revs. Uh oh...

  4. Its the DPF you need to heat up - not the inside of the car! Any performance increase may be due to the DPF unblocking rather than a the remap Remaps can be done specifically to increase bottom end power, on some diesels the bottom end power/ torque is restricted to help put less strain on the DMF (dual mass flywheel) mant remappers simply increase the fuelling so the remap "follows" the original map and the "low down restriction" is still in place - a better/ more expensive remap is more sophisticated and can increase bottom end but you may need to strengthen the transmission to cope with the extrabottom end torque A tuning box often increases bottom end power/ torque more than a remap A DPF delete can reduce turbo lag by allowing the turbine to spool up quicker - along with back box delete and decat can make a big difference , (as well as a free- flowing exhaust, as lenny has suggested)

  5. Thanks Lenny, MFK Autocare is actually who remapped the car for me. I told them I would be up to their location in Westmeath in the New Year to get my DPF removed at some point. Do you know do they have a rolling road at their own garage? I actually blanked my EGR valve about 2 weeks ago using your guide (very good write up by the way!) but I didn't notice any difference with the car after doing it (maybe the EGR wasn't in bad condition in the first place?) I forgot to tell Mathew I had the EGR blanked until after he had mapped and he said that's a pity because he would of mapped it slightly different knowing that. I also have a K & N air filter fitted two weeks ago aswell. I'm assumimg that if I get the DPF removed the car will need to be remapped again?...Would the DPF have any effect on turbo lag do you know? A few cars ago I had a 1.9TDI 130bhp Passat and it seemed to have absolutely no turbo lag whatsoever which made it extremely easy to drive...I know it's a differnent car and different engine but hoping to reduce the lag as much as possible

  6. IMO the standard ST wheels look better than the alternatives you mention, & those last ones look like something I'd see on a 10 year old corsa in a McDonald's car park.

  8. After seeing the stain of soot below my exhaust after the forced DPF regeneration the tuner did today I decided I would give the car a good long drive and try clean it out to see if there was any truth in what he was saying. After work I drove 70miles out the motorway in 3rd gear at 120km/h so the car was reving at slightly above 4000rpm. I also turned on the heater and the back window heater to try get the car as hot as possible. After driving for about half an hour in 3rd gear I turned around and said I'd drive my car home normally now and see if there's any change. To my surprise there seemed to be a big difference in performance. The car seemed more responsive and there was a far stronger pull when I accelerated harder. Could not get over the difference! :) There is still a bit of turbo lag which I was hoping the map would sort but considering how the car was driving immediately after the remap there is a vast difference. The forced DPF regeneration and my 70 mile drive today must of cleared alot of the soot. As South_Bound also stated, driving in normally you would not really notice much of a difference but if you accelerate hard it definitely has far more of a pull and a kick off the turbo. Considering completely removing the DPF now as my next mod as I'm shocked at the difference it made today

  9. They are all essentially clones of something, but everyone an their aunty has slightly different versions produced some better than others. My new one has an option for Dab+, there is a separate box that you can purchase. as for the sat Nav, the software is really nothing to do with the headunit, unless you buy it with it. so the sat nav is really as good as you want it to be. ive been tweaking mine, primo 2.4, its pretty much perfect for my needs

  12. That's good to hear. Biggest worry is buying something off ebay and turns out to be sh*t and the seller won't stand over their product or do much to oblige. Yeah DAB radio is another feature I want to have on the new headunit, I think with that particular unit you have there is an option for DAB on it is there? Is the sat nav any good on it?
    1 point
  13. thanks for the advice Yunii but its too far to travel to get it done - it would be a double trip, once to drop off and once to collect. I'll ask a local painter for a price. Thanks for the input Lenny, funnily enough ive just seen wheeler dealers where they powder coated some wheels for an aston martin db7 - chrome black. looked ace but it was £65 per wheel - ouch! I've got some Jade R alloys for the Focus....finally. Wanted some Rota GTR's but they are too expensive.

  14. Having a strange problem with my Mk2.5 Focus 1.6 TDCI. Of recent I find that if I accelerate heavily the car doesn't seem to pick up speed properly, this isn't always the case however it's only sometimes. Last week for about 4 days the car didn't have the power it's supposed to and could be a bit jerky at times but not terrible either. I drove a 100 mile trip out the motorway last Friday and on the way up car again had reduced power, seemed heavy at times and I noticed the fans stayed on for a minute after I turned off the engine. Drove home then on the Sunday and since then the car seems back to its regular self. This happens every few weeks and I don't know what to put it down to. Dash isn't displaying any fault codes either. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

  15. Same with my unit, the voice control doesn't work now but I'm not that bothered. The Canbus stuff worked straight out of the box, same for the camera input. In fact while the job took me a fair few days to do, most of the time was taken up stripping trim out to mount the reversing camera then running the cables to reverse lights and the dash. I did a decent amount of research on the different units before I bought mine, and Asure got good feedback for their service and support. Mine was missing the 4Gb SD card when delivered and I had no problems getting a replacement sent out to me. I'd definitely recommend them. Only thing I'd consider for the future is having DAB again, so at some point I may go for an upgraded unit depending what's available.

  19. im just wondering if there is another potential cause for carbon build up and that's the breather pipe, I had a failed o ring on that pipe and the amount of oil that must be getting ingested is staggering, I don't know the science of it all but I cant imagine burning engine oil is going to be good for anything. I have a custom made oil catch can on its way from the states which will at the very least stop oil building up in the intercooler

  20. 195K on the factory turbo!?!...Wow! Didn't think it could alst anywhere near that. Then again most people buying cars especially diesels don't do there research, and the 1.6 DV6 engine is not one that tollerates neglect. Lenny is your Focus the 90bhp or the 110? I have a bottle of Redex in my boot to clean the injectors but I need to get a special fuel funnel first before I can put it in strangely

  21. Seems like it's really in my own intrest to get the DPF removed so as firstly since it's clogging at at 103k miles it must be on the way out and secondly I'll feel the proper benefit of the remap. Do you mind me asking how much it cost you to get your DPF removed there? Prevention is better than cure really and the price of a DPF removal is far less than the price of a new filter Hassen, the remap cost me €275...they have offers every so often though for a remap for €225

    .

Thanks for the guide, it really helped. However, I did come across a problem. I couldnt actually get the panel to come off after taking the clips and windscreen wipers off. They seemed to have gone a bit mad with the glue between the panel and the windscreen! But I managed to take the panel off underneath and just man handled the stuck panel out the way to get access where I needed to. I also did this job as part of changing the fuel filter which made access easier. And so far no warning lights and hopefully will bring some benefits! Cheers.

  24. hi,,, a factory i use to be the engineer for use to use ALTO pressure washers, they are now called Nilfish Alto, anyway these washers were industrial type and came in single or 3 phase, They are too high pressure for washing cars as it can do serious dammage forcing a jet of water in to places its not suppose to go. While dealing with the company that sold these units we were also given a smaller unit for washing cars and trucks, single phase and plugs in to domestic power suply. I have tried all sorts of domestic power washers but nothing touched this Alto job they had given us, i still have it as the company i worked for went bust as its main supplier pulled out. I have had a look for something like what i have as its over 7 years old now and could not find the product number, but found its newer version i think, still the same colour as well i see. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1577941.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=cgid:18091943245|tsid:59156|cid:189934285|lid:96719037925|nw:g|crid:60722798365|rnd:995996529710434850|dvc:c|adp:1o1 this price is amazing for this unit,,, it was more expensive when they gave us one but i think there more popular now and it gets some good reviews,,, i think the next washer up is the 130 as this is the 120. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1577941.htm#pdpProductReviews These are the type we had in the factory,,, had about 6 of them,,, you could not was your car with one as its way to high pressure, i remember 1 of the cleanerd doing his moped with one,, it blew bits off it and knackered all the electrics up. https://www.nilfisk-alto.co.uk/en/products/Pages/product.aspx?fid=16325&Name=POSEIDON%207-67%20FA%20400/3/50%20EU we also had a couple of these at dedicated cleaning stations,,, these are for longer periods of use,,, did not heat up and cut out on thermal overload,,, had cracking pumps in them and were a well built bit of kit, even changing the pistons was made easy. https://www.nilfisk-alto.co.uk/en/products/Pages/product.aspx?fid=15455&Name=UNO%20BOOSTER%20BASIC%203X400/415%2050

  27. I drove the tdci Focus which used to be the courtesy car at Profile Automotive, this had a Wolf remap on it and I was surprised how smooth and sweet it felt to drive. If yours is anything similar it's no wonder you've broken out in a big :D now.

  28. He did tell me but I forget the actual numbers - I wasn't looking for outright power so I think it was something like 130BHP. The guy I went to specialises in dpf deletes and remaps and writes his own code - he has done a good number of Focus and so had a suitable map ready to flash over. He is in the west of England of you were ever looking for an alternative, no exactly local for you but useful if you were ever that way.
    1 point
  29. Got my 1.6TDCi remapped at the same time as the dpf came out and I do notice the difference when I drive hard, but not really when I potter along. The mpg was significantly improved though, which I was told is a combination of not having to regen any more and the remap adding a good amount of torque low down in the range. There were loads of dpf related codes and warning lights because it had reached the end of its life, and these disappeared with the remap. The effect was instant as well.

  30. Sorry Dave I obviously didn't put it down correctly. What I ment was maybe the tuner shouldn't have gone ahead with the remap. I would have thought the guy might have called you or something to say you have some errors on your car. would you like to get these sorted out first before going ahead with the remap. But like I said. I could be wrong in saying it would be better getting the errors fixed first. But I did notice a big difference in my E90. went from 163bhp to around 190bhp. car revved quicker, faster acceleration etc. Im getting the ST done soon. but Im just going for the Dreamscience remap.

  31. I had been doing a bit of research the last few months on remapping and this particular fella seemed to have good reviews which is why I went with him. Should he not of gone ahead with mapping it if the ECU was throwing out those fault codes in the first place? As I said I feel there amy be a small increase in power mid range...but if I drove the car and I wasn't told it was remapped I never would suspect that it was...
    1 point
  32. If the guy got these error codes up. Why did he carry on with the remap ?
    1 point
  33. That's dissapointing to hear! Is there any common reason for this?...As in why would he not be able to remap the car correctly? These are the fault codes I got in the diagnostic report: Diesel (G8DA - Duratorq-TDCi - ->03/08) DTC Description P0299 - Turbo / Super Charger Underboost - Intermittent P2458 - Particle filter regeneration duration - Intermittent P1402 - EGR system fault - Intermittent P1402 - EGR system fault - Intermittent Get EGR Cleaned and use Dipitene mixture through diesel for 1 month. Also change oil and get bung in sump changed

  39. What is it you want to do to the clocks? If you just want them to look better have you thought about a custom made? There is this company http://www.metal-monkey.co.uk/acatalog/Dials_and_Gauges.html and they can do whatever you like, custom colour LEDs to change through rev range, background colours, pretty much anything. A guy at work with an st170 just had some done for around £80 amd the look brilliant. Going to get mine done next year.
