They have to make the "accident" as realistic as possible so use the car most likely to be involved in one Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app3 points

I'll echo what FOCA says about the blanking plate. I noticed a difference straight away. Careful with the DMF as well. If I give my car a moderate amount of boot now, there is a small amount of quiver around 1800 revs. Uh oh...2 points

Its the DPF you need to heat up - not the inside of the car! Any performance increase may be due to the DPF unblocking rather than a the remap Remaps can be done specifically to increase bottom end power, on some diesels the bottom end power/ torque is restricted to help put less strain on the DMF (dual mass flywheel) mant remappers simply increase the fuelling so the remap "follows" the original map and the "low down restriction" is still in place - a better/ more expensive remap is more sophisticated and can increase bottom end but you may need to strengthen the transmission to cope with the extrabottom end torque A tuning box often increases bottom end power/ torque more than a remap A DPF delete can reduce turbo lag by allowing the turbine to spool up quicker - along with back box delete and decat can make a big difference , (as well as a free- flowing exhaust, as lenny has suggested)2 points

Thanks Lenny, MFK Autocare is actually who remapped the car for me. I told them I would be up to their location in Westmeath in the New Year to get my DPF removed at some point. Do you know do they have a rolling road at their own garage? I actually blanked my EGR valve about 2 weeks ago using your guide (very good write up by the way!) but I didn't notice any difference with the car after doing it (maybe the EGR wasn't in bad condition in the first place?) I forgot to tell Mathew I had the EGR blanked until after he had mapped and he said that's a pity because he would of mapped it slightly different knowing that. I also have a K & N air filter fitted two weeks ago aswell. I'm assumimg that if I get the DPF removed the car will need to be remapped again?...Would the DPF have any effect on turbo lag do you know? A few cars ago I had a 1.9TDI 130bhp Passat and it seemed to have absolutely no turbo lag whatsoever which made it extremely easy to drive...I know it's a differnent car and different engine but hoping to reduce the lag as much as possible2 points

IMO the standard ST wheels look better than the alternatives you mention, & those last ones look like something I'd see on a 10 year old corsa in a McDonald's car park.2 points

After seeing the stain of soot below my exhaust after the forced DPF regeneration the tuner did today I decided I would give the car a good long drive and try clean it out to see if there was any truth in what he was saying. After work I drove 70miles out the motorway in 3rd gear at 120km/h so the car was reving at slightly above 4000rpm. I also turned on the heater and the back window heater to try get the car as hot as possible. After driving for about half an hour in 3rd gear I turned around and said I'd drive my car home normally now and see if there's any change. To my surprise there seemed to be a big difference in performance. The car seemed more responsive and there was a far stronger pull when I accelerated harder. Could not get over the difference! :) There is still a bit of turbo lag which I was hoping the map would sort but considering how the car was driving immediately after the remap there is a vast difference. The forced DPF regeneration and my 70 mile drive today must of cleared alot of the soot. As South_Bound also stated, driving in normally you would not really notice much of a difference but if you accelerate hard it definitely has far more of a pull and a kick off the turbo. Considering completely removing the DPF now as my next mod as I'm shocked at the difference it made today2 points

Well, i got my 1.6 TDCI 110bhp remapped this morning. Before the remap the guy doing it said it should bring the car up to around 140bhp so that sounded good to me. I also told him that in particular I wanted more low end torque for easier driving. I got a call then after an hour and a half to say the remap was done so I went to collect the car. The fella told me that he probably didn't get it up as much as he hoped to because the DPF was quite clogged and the egr valve needed a bit of cleaning. He did a forced DPF regeneration to try clear some of the soot and I could see a mark on the ground bellow the exhaust from all of this soot. He advised me to clean the egr valve and possible down the line remove the dpf. He also told me that I might not feel the full difference immediately but over the next week of regular driving it should become a bit faster. On the drive home to be honest I really didn't notice much of a difference at all. There's possibly a bit more of boost mid range, but no difference low range and doesn't feel like 140bhp. I've read people saying remapping has completely transformed how their car drives but I can't say the same, definately doesn't feel like €275 worth of a difference anyway. He said that two faults came up on his diagnostics for the DPF and the EGR but I didn't get any warning lights on my dash. I also told him I blanked my EGR last week so maybe that's why and he recommended I unblank it and clean it out as the turbo needs some of the gas recirclant for better boost. I'm wondering firstly is their any truth in the fact that it could take over a week to feel the full extent of the remap? And also if the dpf has a bit of a build up could that sap alot of the power I had hoped to gain from the remap? Feeling a bit dissapointed at the moment :(1 point

Not aware of DAB being an option with the asure unit, can't see anything in the manual but haven't specifically asked the question. Could be that it'll accept an input from a DAB receiver but I'd want it integrated so you can pick channels from the head unit itself. Is that how the eonon unit would handle it? My unit also came with some version of Igo Primo nav software, got 2 different versions of it now as when I queried the missing SD card they provided download link plus the replacement card had another version already on it. I've not really tested it's abilities that much and have still to learn how best to set it all up.1 point

They are all essentially clones of something, but everyone an their aunty has slightly different versions produced some better than others. My new one has an option for Dab+, there is a separate box that you can purchase. as for the sat Nav, the software is really nothing to do with the headunit, unless you buy it with it. so the sat nav is really as good as you want it to be. ive been tweaking mine, primo 2.4, its pretty much perfect for my needs1 point

I emailed MFK Auto Car today and they said they would do a DPF removal for €325 for me since I already got a remap and they would also do the EGR valve included while I was there. Looks like they did a very tidy job on your car which is the key of getting it done really. I was always against the idea of removing the DPF incase of the NCT but once they do a decent job they shouldn't know the difference, and your Focus and wallet will thank you down the line :) Brilliant stuff man, I'll crack open a cold beer and those videos should keep me entertained for awhile anyway :)1 point

Ha your off the same branch as me so, I'm constantly spending my wages on something for the car it's like an addiction...if I didn't own a car I'd be loaded. Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that the 90bhp Focus's didn't have a DPF? I know the 1.8 TDCI definitely doesn't have one. I'd say my car is pushing between 140 to 150bhp at the moment, that's a guess obviously but my last car was a 2.0TDI A3 140 and it feels slightly lively than that. I still feel a slight hesitation low down in the throttle but Im putting that down to the clogged DPF, would make alot of sense. If you upgraded your injectors I'd say your car should easily push the 140 or 150 mark. That's the main difference between the 90bhp and the 110 isn't it, different injectors and a different map?1 point

Im pretty sure it doesn't have BT voice controls, but it does have canbus support, the stalk works fine as does the reverse cam mode without the need for switching cables and such like, I do have the camera and its great although I like the sensors as well as the camera doesn't quite catch the outside corners of the bumper. the only niggle is the lights on the HU wont turn on with headlights, it is supposed to but you need to apply a wee fix by connecting a pink wire to a light that turns on, such as the demist leds, im not sure why that isn't fixed as its been an ongoing question since they made this HU but the fix apparently works, personally I just have the lights on all the time now1 point

The mountune induction kit is a panel filter, uograded airbox with secondary cold air feed and the intake hose. It uses the original airbix lid that has the maf sensor mounted onto it. The same kit except the intake hose is used in the ST upgrade.1 point

Fiesta/ trim models and insuranceare not my area of expertese but - In any given engine size (eg 1.3L) there are different trim levels, the car itself is basically identical (eg, same shell etc) but there is more stuff stuck on the ghia trim for example some trim levels are in the factory (eg,Popular, Popular Plus, L, LX, Ghia, 1.6S, XR2i, RS Turbo, RS1800, Fiesta, Louisiana, LA, DL, SX, Azura, Si, Classic, Classic Quartz, Classic Cabaret, Saphire) Some were "specials" that were done in the dealers, usually to boost flagging sales (typically a couple of "extras" thrown in and a badge stuck on the tailgate) Apart from dealers sticking extra kit on, owners may have retrofitted kit as well The "base" model is usually the lowest or most basic available, perhaps the person that made out the log book put "base" (for base model) instead of "L" "LX" "popular" etc What does it say on the bootlid? Of course, when it comes to insurance, you must be careful1 point

hi,, just found this also,,, its the version down from the 120 i think,,, its the 110, but its the reviews that are interesting. I did see this one for £45 on the Argos site,, i think there was money knocked off. http://www.screwfix.com/p/nilfisk-alto-c110-3-5-pca-x-tra-110bar-pressure-washer-1-4kw-230v/614621 point

Thanks for the guide, it really helped. However, I did come across a problem. I couldnt actually get the panel to come off after taking the clips and windscreen wipers off. They seemed to have gone a bit mad with the glue between the panel and the windscreen! But I managed to take the panel off underneath and just man handled the stuck panel out the way to get access where I needed to. I also did this job as part of changing the fuel filter which made access easier. And so far no warning lights and hopefully will bring some benefits! Cheers.1 point

Looking good mate, Didn't realise the ST had that bit of chrome on the handle looks good. The airvents make a nice upgrade too. Keep us posted on these aswell mate what's required to fit and if they are a straight swap. Also what size Torx is required to remove the seats? Im sound deadening in spring and need to remove my seats but i don't have a Torx big enough and need to purchase.1 point

I don't think all of the DPF DTCs lights up on the dash, that regeneration threshold one or something similar to that. I remember seeing that when I first got my modified ELM 327, which sparked me in to action to "fix" the problem :D1 point

I would strongly suggest you go to www.eonon.com or any other branded company selling that clone, just because if it goes wrong you have someone to fall back on that has a reputation to keep. There are also dozens of versions of those clones, some look shoddy, some look great, its really worth shopping around for but its definitely one id stay clear of ebay for, theres just too many crappy ones out there. http://www.eonon.com/Car-GPS/Specific-Car-GPS/Ford/D5162.html is the one I have which I will vouch for. I originally got shipped an old version of it (they updated it not long after I bought it) it developed a CD fault, spoke to eonon, took a video, sent it back to them and they sent me a new one, this one had some software refinements, radio worked better, had the ability for DVB-T and DAB+ and all is well again. its your call obviously but for peace of mind I would rather pay a wee bit more for something with a name attached and known support then just get the cheapest clone on ebay! oh an don't bother with their sat nav software, get yourself a micro SD card and PM me ;)1 point

Another thing to consider if loosing coolant after topping up repeatedly could be a water pump issue. When was the timing belt or water pump last changed?1 point

Its a turbo so no insurance isnt cheap secondly youll invalidate youre warranty trying to get anymore out of it as well as increase youre insurance add to that the longevity or wear of this engine is unknown with the ti vct system ide leave it alone they respond well to tuning but at the cost of the engine there are companies who claim over 150bhp from this engine with no reliability issues which is rubbish ford are developing a reliable 150bhp engine if it was as simple as bolting stuff on and remapping it ford wouldnt spend millions developing a newer engine drl i wouldnt bother i see so many cars with one drl as they burn out hondas renaults fords even if you could just change the headlights check the cost its not worth it1 point

It spools up from 1500 rpm rather than 1800 now. I suppose you can never get rid of the lag completely because of the nature how the turbo works. It is certainly an improvement though!1 point

South_Bound did they tell you what type of gains you got in bhp or torque with your remap? What I really was hoping to achieve was more low down torque and the turbo kicking in lower down the rev range. That way I would use less fuel as not having to rev as much, car would be easier to drive and would also have more power. Unfortunately I have the opposite, slight bit more power mid range (not much) and no extra low down pull :(1 point

No I didn't get a rolling road because the guy tuning the car travelled down to me, he does a mobile service and because of work I was finding it hard to get time to go somewhere with a rolling road so thought this would be handier. I rang the remapper there saying I wasn't happy with it and he as adimate that the problem was the EGR and DPF. He advised me to clean out the EGR first of all and see if that made any difference. He also said to take the car for a run for about 20mins, at about 100km in 3rd gear and that might clear out the DPF. After that he said if I'm still not happy he can either come back to me and map it again or I can go to his garage in Westmeath which i think has a rolling road which I wouldn't mind getting tested. I'm a bit annoyed at myself now because I should of got it done with a rolling road since they can alter the performance and gain levels to suit my specific car depending on what the car's output is...up until now i really only thought it was for getting a print out to say your car went from 109bhp to 143bhp or whatever. I wouldn't have though that the DPF could affect power that much, especially low down in the revs it's a bit sluggish. Does it have that dramastic a reduction in power with a relitavely clogged one?1 point
-
Get him to put it back the way it was, it'll have just been an OBD flash and he should have kept the original in case it didn't work out so well. fix the problems then go else where. If they refuse I don't really know where you stand short of paying someone to see if its maps have been changed then going to claims court. You will have noticed a huge difference with the car though1 point
-
Did you not get a rolling road BHP chart, before and after? Cant map a car properly without a rolling road. If not you are just being given a map that's worked in some other car, a car that's got different wear, use, performance etc, air filter, fuel pressure than yours. One map doesn't fit all A map is immediately noticeable, you can feel even 5 BHP changes quiet easily. Sounds like he has just charged you for a fault code read1 point
-
Unfortunately I was only made aware of those fault code when the map was done and I was collecting the car. I never really even considered whether the remap should have gone ahead with those codes or not. The difference isn't day or night for me anyway...I think there's a small bit of extra power mid range but then again I don't know if it's because I'm pushing the car a bit harder to see if there's any difference. As you said and what I've always though is you would notice a remapped car instantly. Hopefully someone who has there Focus remapped or anyone that has a good knowledge on this will shed some light as I will be making contact with the remapper looking for a fix or my money back otherwise!1 point
-
I could be wrong. But I don't think I would have gone ahead with the remap if it was throwing up error codes. I would have addressed these first. but like I say I could be wrong in thinking this. Someone will hopefully confirm this soon. As for you saying if you had not been told it was remapped you wouldn't have suspected it was. You should have defo notice a remap. I got a remap years ago on my E90 and it was like night and day.1 point
