Yes, I think that is the case. The key must be turned in the ignition as part of the programming procedure. The PATS sensor is very short range, and is around the ignition key barrel, so it has to be the new key in the lock. So it has to be cut. Cutting can be a problem. Some locksmiths & key cutting shops will not touch 3rd party keys. They claim (!) it might damage their machines, as they don't know what alloy the blade is made of. You may have to hunt around a bit. The Forscan procedure should be able to program PATS for you. You have to register on the Forscan site, to get an extended license (free, I believe). Then the PATS service procedure on Forscan should be enabled. You get an Outcode from the car, go to a website (Forscan site gives details), enter it, get an Incode, enter that into the car via Forscan, then turn the key in the lock as instructed. There is also a simple procedure to check the PATS chip is valid, basically try the new key, and find out what error code it gives, it will tell you if the chip is not recognised, or is valid but just not programmed into the car yet. ive got the same car and mines exactly the same but if i turn traction control off it doesnt do the juddering.

Update Pretty good so far mpg is roughly the same but i have been testing it, I have to put car back into garage for a repair soon on the load cover so had to dowgrade it again for test, this got interesting but the guys at superchips are very helpful, plugged into car the bluefin recognised that it was the bluefin was installed followed the instructions on screen and the device asked if wanted to install the original, pressed yes made myself a cuppa and sat back in the car.....well half way through the device refused to upload the original map and there were numerous lights on the dash, calmed myself down a bit and followed instructions on screen and the second time it worked but if im being honest i definately caked the boxer shorts for a bit!!!! A full day of driving later all I wanted to do was put the chips map back in because the car is definately a different beast without it. I was slightly hesitant but it worked before so made myself another cuppa and got down to do it, worked first time and the chips map is back on with no issues, had a good chat with the chips guys and they would like to do a teleconference with me before i downgrade the next time so they can analyse very last detail of what happenned during the failure. All in all a wee bit of a fright thinking I had mashed the ECU but the aftercare with superchips is excellent so I have no worries they thanks to Mike and Graeme at superchips for calming me down and for the time spent so far .

I don't like finally relenting and having to put the heating on!!!

Hello & welcome, I've already made a project thread on here listing a Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost for those of you wanting to see my previous work & modifications :) However, that project has now come to an end. I've recently traded that Fiesta in for something with a little more kick. After going to Ford Fair 2016, seeing and hearing the mk2 Focus STs give it some on the track I knew that would be my next direction. It's a pretty drastic change going from a 1.0 litre 3 cyclinder Fiesta... to a 2.5 litre 5 cyclinder Focus! And I've loved every minute of ownership so far. Personally I loved the Panther Black on the Fiesta and it was no different with the new project car, so I hunted for one. I wanted a PB Focus that was completely standard, giving me a good basis to work on modifications, and also to know it had been driven sensibley. The example I found, had 10 years worth of Ford Service History and only 48k on the clock (for a 10 year old car thats pretty good going..). It was also an ST3 so comes with bi-xenon HID headlights, full recaro leather bucket type seats, upgraded sony sound system etc. So with all that out the way, here are some photos of the car as it was, completely standard :) The absolute first thing I wanted to do once I had acquired the car, was to give it a long overdue all day cleaning session in which I got the following done! - Snowfoam Pre-Wash - Shampoo - Glaze - Polish - Wax - Quick Detailer, and the car came up a treat, so happy with it! The first modification that I was to make, I had purchased before even getting the car as I found a good deal on one of the forum pages :D This came in the form of two zunsport front grills, for the top and bottom - comes in gloss black which is so much smarter than that crappy matte grey/black Ford likes to do things.. Take a look for yourself With the zunsports on (still need to spray the top original grill gloss black as zunsport goes over the top)... Have done loads more bits and pieces, will upload those when I get some more free time! Thanks for looking, I'll update very very soon!

When I rolled up home after buying the Mondy. So far after getting the car in September this year I've Changed all internal bulbs, numberplate and mirror puddle lights to LEDs. Changed the front grill from grey to Black.....

Hi everyone This is my first post here so hello! I recently (last week) bought my wife a new Fiesta ST. It's her 3rd one - they are great cars! Anyway, it has the Sony Sync system with the built in Sat NAv. I have checked the box to allow the clock to be set automatically but it's an hour fast. The box to adjust to BST is not checked. If I check this box the clock is then 2 hours fast. It's as if the car has been set up for Central European Time and not GMT. Anyone have any idea how I can set the clock up correctly? At the moment I have set it manually but would prefer the accuracy of having it set automatically if possible. Thanks, Nick

Sorry to hear the news mate, you're REALLY unlucky to have an issue with the fuel system on a MK2 1.8 TDCi, makes me wonder if the replacement pump was a pattern part rather than genuine. Don't forgot to let us all know what you move on to.

If you're using an Easybleed type pressurised system don't use more than 20psi and don't forget to keep your master cylinder reservoir topped up all the time you're bleeding/replacing brake fluid. Give the brake nipples a good soaking in plus gas etc before you have a go a undoing them and use a decent socket a not an open ended spanner; too easy to round off the nut. If all else fails get a bit of heat on the nipple with a butane type torch but keep clear of the flexible pipes! If the fluid hasn't been changed for a while there may be some corrosion around the nipple conical seat and it may be a good idea to give it a clean up and clear out the bleed holes as well. Don't forget to disconnect the air pressure before you take the nipple out! There won't be much fluid coming out unpressurised and you take the nipple out completely and give it a good clean and a bit of copper grease before you screw it back in. Bleed until the brake fluid comes clean and natural colour, about a litre of fluid through should give it a good clean out. Life is much easier with wheel off!

I do like another free find... It's an old-fashioned plasma and certainly not HD, but has a 42" screen and works perfectly, with original remote and didn't cost a penny (except £5 of petrol in the Focus to collect it)! We've had HD televisions before and neither of us could tell any difference, so what's the point in wasting money on something you won't appreciate? Tomorrow's job (and a post for the "don't like" thread) is taking the 37" Toshiba CRT upstairs... Not looking forward to that, expectially given that my back has already been playing up as it is.

You can't beat superchips for customer service and properly tested products had mine for a far few years now, better performance and under normal driving better mpg, drops a bit if you boot it of course but not as much as a standard set up does

I'd be willing to drive all the way to Suffolk just to get it done by you mate! The only reason I'd never get such a mod done is because of my !Removed! insurance company who refused to insure me if I got my windows tinted!

Again, the body shop dude rang and said car won't be ready til Monday. He gave some excuse about injuring himself whilst welding last night. Not impressed at all. I rang him back and said I need my car today, I can't be without it over the weekend. He said he'd try and get it out around 4/5 today so hopefully I'll be getting a phonecall later.

What you have to remember is that the advertised figures are not based on real MPG figures, at least within the EU they are governed by specific EU tests which are pretty far removed from normal everyday driving. It would be impossible for even the most economic drivers in the best case scenario's to match manufacturer provided MPG figures because of the way tests are performed - hence why manufacturers say "up to X miles to the gallon" when advertising their products. Wikipedia link to EU Driving cycle As for the display, that is an estimate based on various factors including your past & current driving style, current draw on the engines power from extras such as air conditioning & even lights. There are many more factors can affect the accuracy of the miles remaining but in short you should always simply take it as what it is, an estimate.

Mine is a 1.6 diesel 115 and feels the same too. I always switch off the start/stop too. Clutch feels strange and judders.

Only found on cars which had it specced from factory in any trim, it wasn't standard even on Titanium sadly. He'll also need the auto light & wiper screen fitted for those functions. I'd have done it if you were local, done quite a few now, but you're not lol. Tbh for £15 just buy an ELM cable and do it yourself if you've got a laptop, I know not everyone does though.

There are other theories around drilling the doors and stuff too. But the alarm one, in my mind, would seem to be the most likely. Obviously others may have other ideas. Can always test it yourself by locking the car with the window open and seeing how far you can put your arm in I guess... Unless there's something that stops the alarm from arming in this instance? In any case, removing the fuse should be enough to put them off. Takes time to get the door open, the glovebox removed and a fuse replaced before reconnecting to the OBD port. I would hope that the alarm would be noticed by then, in a highly populated area! If you remain worried - move/secure the OBD port, shove a steering lock on, garage your car or employ a guard dog! :)

school leavers now can find jobs/training without getting there hands dirty and for better pay., and used to be the case " if all else fails i will be a mechanic" trouble is now cars are more complicated to work on, and just having a few spanners and a hammer doest fix them. one of the few trades where you have to supply your own tools to do the job for an employer. and can cost £1000's to buy. i just spent £600 on a few bits after changing jobs. i hate to think what ive spent over the years. how many tools does a plumber, electrician, welder, etc need to own to do there job. alot of garages still pay poor rates of pay , no wonder mechanics leave the trade.

That theory comes from the securemycar video on YouTube, they didn't actually prove it using the RS they had, when you see CCTV of cars being stolen the smash the window and try to plug in asap, the alarm does go off though.

It seems to happen more when you get a sudden temperature drop (especially when a bit damp as well). Used to get it occasionally in my mk2 Focus. Might be condensation on the circuit boards? Sent from my SM-G930F

Love threads like this. You've spent a lot of your hard earned money on a new car but £100 is too much to hopefully ensure you keep the car, lol They're a pain to fit? no they are not, a few seconds and it's on or off. The disklok looks ugly and outdated, Really? it looks like it does the job it was designed to do, it also a good visual deterent, I'd like to see what other "very visual deterent" that works as well. Yes the STs may be ten a penny but they do get stolen a lot so it's worth doing something to keep it yours. IMO, disklok, move the port and put it in a box behind the dash, take the fuse out, and VRI GAP insurance.

Mk2 Would fit too yes as there identical so that's all 3 door focus from 2005 - 2011

I'm also considering Team Dynamics, these in fact... My car is black and I'm still trying to decide if black alloys really work with a black car, or if I should stick with silver. I know I definitely don't want white/red etc. If the only trade offs are slightly increased road noise, slight decrease in MPG and a tendency to feel more bumps in the road, then I'm okay with that - especially as the car should look SO much better and, as yourself and mikeyd1 (and others) have said, the handling firms up a bit. Thanks again for all the responses. Just need to stop faffing about and make up my mind now!

This is what i have done but i have smart TV and phone and phone is just WiFi and have cable in tv by using a Ethernet double adapter.

yh going to try it this weekend see how much it needs to be raised or just get a space saver which would look lovely haha

Hello again people, Thanks for the replies! Back from my week away in the Lake District.. struggled with the GF's 1.4 corsa SRI all week wow.. aha :) Anyway got some photos to upload first that I took, and then I also have made some more changes and got lots more to come! And a move of location.. Pretty happy with the shots from my phone, need to invest in a good phone like a DSLR really for better shots! Anyway can document one more modification i've made, and that was installing a mongoose sports cat to the car! It was used but at a bargain price of £135 for a few months use you cant really complain when they are £500 new! Old restrictive catalyic converter (big old chunky restrictive thing!) We had to angle grind some of the old existing bolts off on the original catalyic converter in order to fit the sports cat. Didn't manage to grab a pic of underneath with the sports cat on this time, was too excited to go hear it.. But next time on the ramp I will try to get a pic, its alot more roomy now with the centre silencer gone and the normal cat replaced with a smaller but 3 inch mongoose sports cat! The sound difference is incredible, it now growls like an absolute beast.. and the bangs are frightening! Head turner inc :) As I say loads more on the way, parts are here just need to find time to get them on and modify bits and pieces! Thanks again !

Back onto modification updates!! So got a bag full of light goodies to add on to smarten up the car a tad :) Inside included new gel badge overlays (carbon background with white writing) - Front/Back/Steering Wheel/Wheel caps £30 from someone I really recommend on Ebay if anyone is looking for some. Have used this seller (Calibrafastcat) multiple times, great communication and gets delivered 1-2 days. There is also a white ST badge for the front grill, but I am yet to put that on. There is also a gloss black adhesive strip for the front above the top grill ( I plan to wrap this in carbon as my theme for the car is going to be Black with white & carbon for the exterior, and lime green for lights and a few other details as can be seen further along). Also got some white inlays for the original red ST badges on the car.. This helps getting the theme going alot, and looks much smarter if you ask me. Plus its more modified ;) EXCUSE DIRTINESS One of my pet hates with the prefacelift model of the MK2 Focus ST is the lousy fog light covers in a terrible grey with silver outline. So, I decided to tackle these by using matte black for the insert, and wrap the frame in carbon to get my theme going :) Smartened up the rear alot!! Ran out of time with the fronts so still need to do them, but further through the project you'll see the rear looks much better! Another improvement I made for the rear was to tint the rear lights using fly-eye as done before on the Fiesta. The lights on the Focus were MUCH easier to do, and completely nailed it! Again, you'll see pics lower down of how they look really. Now, one performance upgrade i've made is called the De-Res pipe exhaust mod. Which basically entales taking out the middle silencer on the exhaust system, and replacing it with a straight through pipe in the middle instead. Original De-Res Pipe Fitted This has opened up some of that 5 cyclinder roar, gave it more crackles and now instead of having a minute pop/bang, it now bangs like a whip and is extremely loud when wanted :D It's so much fun, due to the unpredictability of when the next bang, pop or crackle is going to come. Nothing more satisfying than giving it some beans and then it bangs moving into the next gear!! Best £30 I've ever spent haha, temporary measure gets replaced when getting a cat-back system fitted :) Also installed some fantastic green LED panels lights into the footwells, need to get some better pics of those but here....Little blurred Next time I did any work it was at my friend's garage, the same friend that also had the fiesta has now also gone for a Mk2 Focus ST! In performance blue! This job we've done before in my other project, and we both wanted the same thing! We really liked the standard 18' alloy wheels on the ST so we decided to paint them gloss black! Took a while but really prepared them this time, thorough clean, sand with abrasive sandpaper to scratch and then used a less coarse sandpaper to smooth it out. Then primered the wheels, sanded back smooth a smidge and was good to go! Some of my wheels had small kerbing and crack so sorted them out like a new refurb :) While in the middle of wheels, we also painted our brake callipers with Etech painting kits (Brush). I went for lime green to bring out the black, and my friend went orange with his! They all came out really good and was happy with the results!! Black wheels gave the car that stealth look I love, and the green just grabs attention! Need to sort out the front fog covers tho be getting done asap! With this being said, I went out one morning and took some photos in 2 quite good locations so I'll spam you with some pictures of how she's lookin' at the moment! I'll have to upload the next pictures when I get back, as Im travelling 4.5 hours tomorrow to go to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales with the Mrs! I'll be back Saturday or Sunday. Jackson ford did mine in Henley-in-Arden, yes they are an independent ford dealer and spoke to their service manager who said they would have a go, it was straight forward to do with no problems, they pluged their softwear system into the USB port and changed the setting to run DRL took about 10mins. Excellent customer service from them..

turn ignition on just before you connect the battery, have done this on mine with no problems. or you could try this frist.
