Ford changed the meaning of zetec from an engine name to a spec of interior etc

If it says Duratec it will be a Duratec.

No problem

Ford had the name Zetec for the engines in the Escort's etc, but when the Focus came on the scene they changed the meaning of the word Zetec from an engine name to a car spec, just like Titanium is too

No

The zetec and duratec are different engines. The duratec is all alloy and has a timing chain, better gas flow through the head and is a more powerful and torquey engine than the zetec. The zetec is belt driven and has an iron block.

Mazda were the developers of the duratec engine at the start too

Doesn't sound quite right. The range of Duratec's in the Focus are cambelt driven. I know the Mk 3 Mondeo Duratec engines were chain driven, therefore for a period, what you are saying was correct.

The Zetec engine is cam belt driven, the Duratec chain driven.

Ford changed the name ( re badged) the Zetec engine in the Focus to Duratec i.e. The ST170 engine is a Black top Zetec badged as Duratec.

The difference between the Zetec and the Duratec that is easy to spot is, looking at the front of the engine, not the gearbox end, the zetec has the inlet on the left, exhaust on the right, Duratec inlet on the right, exhaust, left.

So the Duratec that is a Duratec is chain driven and the Duratec thats really a Zetec is belt driven. LOL

I bought a 5 speed trans for my '02 ZX3. The serial # is 1s7r-7f096. I was told by the guy I got it from that it was a MTX-75 trans for my car. Searching the number on the housing it shows up as a Ford Mondeo TDI. Does anybody know about this model trans, and will it still work in my car? I'd hate to buy another trans. Is this trans a Duratec or Zetec trans?

What engine is in the car?  Without knowing what engine is in the car, it's impossible to say.
