Anyone know how to change Sony DAB radio colour?

Featured Replies

I bought the Sony DAB radio for my fez because it’s so much nicer than the 6000CD but the colour of the lights is ***** me off because everything else in my car is green and the radio sticks out like a sore thumb because it’s ***** orange, I know it’s possible to change the colour because I’ve seen it before I just don’t know how you do it. I found a picture on google and I have attached it to the thread, this is what my end result to be like

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Sure I read something a few years back as I changed the stereo in my focus to the sony one with the orange display.

Pretty sure you have to change the Led's in it or something along those lines. Same as having to change the Led's in the switch units of you want them a different colour.

Can't remember for certain.

You need to replace the leds. However it's a dog matrix display so ... have fun. How do I know? I was part of the design team.

I realize that the following information is a bit late for the person who posted the original question for this topic but if anyone else who has the Sony 6000CD (SonyCD345) DAB radio has though that they would like to change the colour of the buttons and display, I can tell you that it most certainly is possible.  Having said that.. You may not consider the work that is involved within your capabilities or just worth the hassle. The Ford DAB radio 6000CD (Sony CD345) has 32 x button LED's, 2 x CD slot illumination LED's and 10 x Display LED's. That's 44 SMD (surface mount Device) LED's that have to be removed from the circuit board without causing damage to the "Pads" on to which they have been soldered and then 44 new LED's (of the colour of your choosing) soldered back on. Removing SMD LED's is not super difficult but it does take some skill especially when 34 of the LED's being changed will mostly be 3.2mm x 1.6mm x 1.1 mm in size ( I have very short nails but it would still be possible to place  23 of those LED's on the nail of my little finger!) The 10 Display LED's are much larger at 4.2mm x 3.8mm x 4.2mm

I converted my Sony DAB 6000CD (Sony CD345)  using white LED's and was pleased and satisfied with the result, the white LED's give the  display a light blue background with  white text. I also converted the climate control, electric window buttons, dashboard switches and Lighting control selector and steering wheel controls  from red to white which i think looks much better.

A couple of months later i swapped it out my radio for an Pioneer android auto 🙂

If anyone is mad enough ( I cant be alone) to consider attempting any of the above.. feel free to ask any questions you may have.
