Mk4 1.8tdci will not start

After parking my 59 plate 1.8tdci up for night came out the following morning to car refusing to start.

Key in ignition turn and starter does not engage. Checked fuses/relays ... all ok.

Jump from battery to starter and starter turns over.

no indication on dashboard that immobiliser is active.

I have checked all wiring from ignition ... fuse box ... starter .... all ok

any help would be appreciated
