MK7 Water Leak - Passenger side A Pillar - Missing Bung

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've previously posted about how I've found a load of water lying in the front and rear passenger side of our 2010 Fiesta. I have discovered that the water is entering the cabin from the base of the passenger side A Pillar - it woun't do it after the car had been sat stationary in rainfall or under a hose pipe which complicated things. It is only once moving that the car starts to fill up.

I've traced it to a hole at the base of the A-Pillar as pictured - what seems to happen is the area behind this fills with water when the car gets wet - once the car then starts to move - (even slightly, sitting stationary revving the engine even caused this to happen), the water starts to spill over out of the hole into the foot well. This hole seems to be covered by a wiring connector normally which is why its taken so long to spot.

Given the manufactured nature of the hole i can see only two possible explanations:

1) there should be a bung there which is somehow missing

2) that area should drain away and isn't doing so for some reason - i'll have to whip the arch liner off and have a look in in that case - haven't got time to do that at present.

I was wondering if anyone is in a position to confirm or negate my suspicion about a bung being missing?

(P.S. the untidy sealing around that area isn't the problem, the leak had caused the factory sealant to crack so i have replaced it with new stuff - unfortunately just not very neatly!)

Thanks

Did anyone solve this problem?

I have exactly the same problem but unfortunately I cannot find a solution. Could you please tell me how did you fix it? Thank you.

I can't see it being a missing bung, it would then just fill up !

It seems to be a common problem. The water is leaking into the A pillar. I still could not figure it out from where the water is getting there.
Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

I wondered if water is thrown up by the front tyre and finding it's way in , is there any drain holes ? See this .
