Please help with FORD FOCUS 2013, reverse cam actvation

Featured Replies

Hi, im triying to activate the reverse cam with this guide http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-st-electronics/50471-focus-st-backup-camera-enabling-apim-rear-camera-option.html
But numbers are different dont have a 1 to change for 3 and dont have letter at the first digit.
but try anyway and then i get checksum error, try reverse but nothing on the screen (Sync 1 4" screen)
so i restore to original no checksum error.

Please Help!!!!

it´s a ford focus 2013, buy in Chile South America.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but if you are getting a checksum error, it could be because the format of the data you are using is incorrect for the module.

I think your problem is that that guide is for sync 2. I believe (and @JW1982 will be able to correct me if I'm wrong) that US Focus had Sync 2 earlier than other regions.

That would explain the discrepancy. Also that post refers to removing the "myford touch" which is what sync 2 is called in the US.

There is a way of fitting a reverse cam to sync 1, but afaik it requires an aftermarket module available from Russia. Other folk on here may be able to help with that.

You have tottaly right! it´s a ford focus sedan se 2013, with SYNC 1.

I see some tutorials but they are for lincon or taurus or f150, Sync 1.

but none for focus, i buy this cable

but says it´s have to be activated by manufacturer... in my country none want to do that.

Any help??

On the 4,2 Inch and 5 Inch FCDIM modules (displays) the APIM (SYNC) module has nothing to do with the rear view camera. Changing the APIM configuration will not activate the rear view camera. The rear view camera needs to be activated in the Central Car Configuration.

However after being activated the rear view camera input will only be unlocked if the FCDIM detects a rear view camera module. Without a rear view camera module the rear view camera input will still be locked in the software of the FCDIM.

Apart from the original rear view camera and rear view camera module there are aftermarket alternatives:

The 4,2 Inch FCDIM can be reprogrammed with custom software to unlock the rear view camera input. After being programmed with custom software any aftermarket NTSC rear view camera can be used. The software that is needed is developed by some Russians. As far as I know this software is available as a paid feature within the UCDS diagnostic system.

The 5 Inch (satnav) FCDIM with 2-pole Fakra connector always requires a rear view camera module. As an alternative for the original module a Russian aftermarket module can be used. The aftermarket Russian module can be combined with any aftermarket NTSC rear view camera. This aftermarket module is also available from the developers of the UCDS diagnostic system.

Very late versions of the 4,2 and 5 Inch FCDIM do no longer require a rear view camera module (note that these types of FCDIM are pretty rare and not always interchangeable with earlier versions).

The versions of the 5 Inch FCDIM that do no longer require a rear view camera module can be recognised by the 4-pole Rosenberger/Fakra HSD rear view camera connector.  On this type of FCDIM Any aftermarket NTSC rear view camera can be connected directly to the rear view camera unput of the FCDIM.

The versions of the 4,2 Inch FCDIM that do no longer require a rear view camera module can be recognised by the part number that starts with EM5T. Other part number prefixes may also be suitible but the information about this subject is very limited. The 4,2 Inch EM5T FCDIM does not have a rear view camera connector the rear view camera is directly connected to Pin 6 and Pin 12 of the FCDIM connector.

The cable from your picture is only suitible for 5 Inch (satnav) FCDIM with the 4-pole Rosenberger/Fakra HSD connector. This cable is way overpriced. It is basically just a Rosenberger/Fakra HSD --> RCA adapter cable. The components to build such a cable yourself cost less than €10,-

Nothing to do with this then?

The part number of your FCDIM is CM5T-18B955-GD. This is a 4,2 Inch USA FCDIM. USA FCDIM modules are different from the European FCDIM modules. USA FCDIM modules have different software and in some cases even different hardware.

As far as I know the custom Russian software for the 4,2 Inch FCDIM is not suitible for the USA FCDIM modules. There are however different aftermarket solutions to connect an aftermarket rar view camera to the 4,2 Inch USA FCDIM module.

Below a few links of aftermarket solutions that should be compatible with your type of FCDIM:

http://arc12volt.com/Products.aspx?det=1&pn=ARC-MFCAM
http://www.arc12volt.com/ProductDocs/ARC-MFCAM357 Install Manual 10.pdf

Note that non of these aftermarket solutions is suitible for the 4,2 Inch European FCDIM modules. Because of this I do not have any experience with these aftermarket solusions.
