Influx Magazine - Dad Cars

Featured Replies

Hi ladies and gents,

We just wanted to let you all know about the latest edition of Influx Magazine, the motoring mag put together by us here at Adrian Flux.

This time we reminisce about the ordinary cars that our Dads would have driven.

Let us know what you think.

When I was a baby or before I was born my dad had a mk2 golf GTI . Did so much mods but didn't ruin the look of it. When he was selling it he had a call from someone saying they want to feature it in a magazine. My dad thought they were joking but him and his brother went to a hotel which was paid for and they and the car was featured on the front cover of a magazine.

Next I remember was a fiat punto. Nothing special.

Got a fiat uno after. I think he tried to make it look like the turbo version. Sadly he got rear ended by someone and I remember him saying he could feel the car behind him not letting go of the throttle.

Then got a mk4 golf 1.4. This was the first car he got on finance and did a lot of work on it. Coil overs, big 5 spoke (star like) wheels which he got from America, boost and other gauges, black headlining, R32 steering wheel and seats, fitted screens on the back of the front seats, R32 front bumper and aftermarket rear bumper and xenons. Big thing I'd say he swapped the engine to a 1.8T 225 (which explains the boost). He isn't a fan on having a loud car and I remember him booting it and it was silent. Today the car is owned by one of his friends which hasn't taken car of it. He broke one of the wheels so bought audi ones you see on the RS models, badly scraped the bumper and there's dents.

After got a Peugeot 106 1.5 non turbo. Last French car he'd probably get. Had to change the injectors which weren't as pricey as now and had to change the gearbox.

Then got a mk1 Ford focus ghia 1.8 TDCI saloon. He did have some problems with it such as the starter motor wasn't switching off so had to disconnect the battery before it would catch fire. He also had stalling issues with really put him off the car.

Sold that and now has a VW bora 1.9 TDI today. At the moment he's changing the turbo as he suspects it's causing a boost leak. I've also noticed there would be blue smoke when he moves off which may explain as the turbo had oil around it. With the ultra low emission zones soon to be part of the whole of London he might have to sell the car and probably get a audi or BMW petrol.
